If you think about it, what Pat did was very brave, because the whole regeneration thing had never been done before, and of course there was a distinct possibility that it might not work, but Pat was the right man for the job. I've heard that Mr. Hartnell personally requested Pat for the show, as it turns out, he was right.. I think a lot of people Don't realize how important Pat was to the show. If Pat had failed the show would have been cancelled. I'm an American but British accents are very interesting to me. . What kind of accent does Pat have? I'm

He seems to be very well spoken. He definitely has a posh voice or the phone voice we used to call it.

This is why I would like to see a sequel for An Adventure In Space and Time as the story of Patrick as the first successor of the lead role is worth telling.

That's an interesting idea. It would be fun to see them do that for all of the Doctors in the original series.

Can you imagine the gold we would have gotten had Pat lived to take part in Big Finish. God, he would have adored it

The inventor of the three-year rule regrets it. Wonder what a year of colour Troughton would've been like.

The actors always say Patrick had the hard job, he had to sell the concept of regeneration from nothing.

Great to hear from Troughton, as I don't think he did many interviews about Who.

To know that he was here in the States doing what he truly loved really giving more than his all even though doctors were warning him it was time to give it up.

I was a kid when throughton took over my favourite uncle who looked like him had just died and Patrick kept him alive in my memory and got me over what had happened. So I came to regard Patrick as family. He helped heal me and for that I love him.

I like his humility. The character behind the character can have a major impact upon the show, because if nobody gets along with you…

That is the part that i love the most. Playing the part of a character is anything is loads of fun. Playing the part of The Doctor is an honor with the side of fun. I haven’t heard of one actor to be disappointed in playing the role. They had loads of fun and made their own version of the character. Of course the show has had its ups and downs but each one was unique in its own wibbly wobbly way.

I loved Patrick as Dr Who, as a young child of six I was very confused with the regeneration and thought that he would turn back into William Hartnell. I remember being disappointed that he didn’t but in time I forgot and came to love watching Patrick in the role. The first three doctors are the ones I grew up with and even though I still love the program today, it doesn’t stir the same emotions I had as a child watching at tea time every Saturday. 🙏🇬🇧🌈♥️

Troughton doesn't get the credit for how important he was. Very few shows, if any, have successfully recast their main actor and kept going. It very well could have ended with him as a weird final few seasons, discussed in the same breath as Scrubs season 9 or the office's final few seasons. But he successfully reinvigorated the show and demonstrated that the Doctor could regenerate and still be interesting to watch. Then Jon Pertwee was able to maintain this tradition and the longevity of the character and show was cemented. The show has failed twice now but the successful implementation of regenerations mean we were able to just reboot and get it back on track.

@arandombard1197 it'll take more than a break and a new director it'll take a complete change of ethos and de-politicization at the BBC to make the show popular again.

As much as I love Pertwee, I wish Troughton had ignored his wife and done at least 1 more year... Sadly though if that had happened, I think Jamie should have moved on, just to give us something different...
