@ar-sithf.austin3744
@ar-sithf.austin3744 4 жыл бұрын
For very many reasons but he's making custom jewelry. Not a great deal of mechanically art minded people who can appreciate time intensive and dexterity oriented craftsmanship. The fact he has that many subs speaks volumes. Talk about niche video production. Think of the show "How it's Made". Not a great deal of viewers and they show the production of just about anything imaginable. What I like about this besides the beauty of a finished product is the tooling used in production (as a diesel and trailer mechanic who is primarily a body repairman I def LOVE the microscopic laser welder! Specialty tools are just cool in general as I've had to build my own and jigs and machine all sorts of things over the years in millwright work to get an impossible step in a job done where no tool or ability to buy it existed, I dig it. As a numismatist I love the coin rings.) Thus he gets the tinker, inventor, repairman, furniture builder, former airplane inspector/ mechanic, metal worker, and artist in me with full attention by the fine detailed aspects of his trade craft while making incredible jewelry. I'd love to do it too or build guitars, or a number of other things I don't have the space, time or finances to do as I'd like. Anyway, Patrick should be quite proud of his work because it's genuinely unique and reeks of a characteristic I highly admire in life that is a fine fickle double-edged sword--perfection.

Fun Fact: Black Diamonds are manufactured. A natural black diamond is extremely rare because those only form during a meteoric impact. Not the small ones but the big earth shattering ones! Much of how they mimic those pressures is still top secret.

CONGRATS man - very very well done sir !! Pardon my ignorance but I must ask something probably well known to those in the trade, just what exactly is fordite ? I haven't heard of any such thing EVER before until now !?!? The fordite you used is breathtakingly beautiful !!! At a cursory glance I'd guess fordite is some kind of rarely occuring natural sedimentary amalgamation of prescious or semi prescious minerals (hell or even quite possibly metals) which results in this ASTONISHINGLY GORGEOUS material !!!

As a Goldsmith with around 1000 hours of laser work, rose gold is hard in the laser so a couple of things for next time. Your voltage was not quite high enough try around 220 to 230 range and just watch your temp if it burns your finger probably to hot if not keep shooting. Keep your ms at 2 it's simple and it works. Last after you do your first pass with the wire go back over it with a wide aperture and a little more voltage it will smooth everything out and reveal any porosity. Give it a try haha Great work!

As I understand it, a laser weld is not stronger than a solder job, because it is a more brittle connection. That wouldn’t be an issue on a ring like this because everything is so well supported. Solder also wicks through the whole space making a very broad connection. There is a point when a laser weld would be stronger than solder, which is when the weld is built up enough that you have all one material through the joint. Anyways, it’s not really material with regard to this ring because the joint will be plenty strong, and using mother material to close the ring leaves you without a seam, and without any ugly visible laser scars on the piece.
