I wonder if it's also called Duel of the Fates, because it indirectly decides the fate of Anakin. If Qui-gon lived and became Anakin's master, he likely would've hade enough insight to the dark side to reject Palpatine. If both Qui-gon and Obi-wan died, Anakin might have never been trained as a Jedi at all.

I always believed that. If you pay attention in the prequels, any time Anakin is struggling with the dark side, you can hear duel of the fates (like when he rides to the Tuskan camp)

Actually, I did reasearch, and although you have a good point, Qui-Gon had two apprenticies before Obi-Won, and both turned to sith, so Anikan might have turned sith because Qui-gon lived as well. If they both had died, he would have never been a jedi, never leading him to the path of the Dark Side. But this comment is very well thought out.

If he lived the entire story would have changed That’s why it’s called duel of the fates, it wasn’t the fate of their lives it was the fate of the galaxy in that fight If qui gon won he would have trained anakin to be powerful but control his anger and emotions but due to maul winning he ultimately won since it brought into his masters main plan
