I'm a lefty with left dominant eye. Your video about this topic helped me a lot with insight why my single handed backhand is Beter then my forehand (if i take a closed stance). I'm now focusing on open stance forehand so i can see the court much better. Thank you for your content that your putting on KZfaq. It helped me a lot with my tennis game.

Ocular eye dominance is a function of the horizontal gaze angle. The static concept of eye dominance is flawed, being based on the limited results of sighting with gaze pointed straight ahead. In a reach-grasp task for targets within the binocular visual field, subjects switched between left and right eye dominance depending on horizontal gaze angle. On average, ocular dominance switched at gaze angles of only 15.5° off center. See: A.Z. Khan, J. D. Crawford, Vision Research, Vol 41, Issue 14, June 2001, pages 1743-48.

The problem of semi-open stance is that you can generate power only on paced balls. Low paced moonballs need a closed stance. From my experience.

So Patrick, I've been learned to switch while I was young from a one handed BH to a double handed BH. I play on an advanced level, but I do make most errors on my BH as it is the weakest stroke, and must be practiced most at the beginning of the season.. my FH on the otherhand is incredibly good, but probably because my BH is less.. I use to slice my BH often.. now.. I found out my dominant eye is the right one and I am a right handed player.. as in practice I have more feel with a one handed BH, but don't dare to use it in a match.. would it be advised to switch to a one handed BH and practice it to improve for the match? I am 43 yrs old but still play for 20 yrs on a 5.5 - 6.0 level. Btw, I use sometimes a one handed BH after the bounce or as a reflex, so must mean something..

Your dominant eye must face the coming ball, you don't have to see the court, you must not look at the net either, you have to keep your dominant eye facing the coming ball. Show me an example of federer left eye dominant landing on his left foot open stance. It's not a question of landing, left leg first and body transfer to the right leg, this is fundanental for handling fast balls. One handed backhand with open stance? Ok only if you are Wawrinka or Thiem

If your right ring finger is longer than your right index finger, then you're right eye dominant. If you're left ring finger is longer than your index finger then you're left eye dominant. If either your left or right index fingers are are longer than your ring fingers, then you're third eye dominant. Just kidding. Keep your right index finger at an arms width from you. Align it with an object on the wall or some far off object. Now close your left eye. If your index finger is now no longer aligned with that object, then you're left eye dominant. If your index finger is still aligned with that object when you close your left eye, then you're right eye dominant.

I initially have a single backhander and now use for the most part a two hander because I have to get to the "place" a lot earlier to hit a good shot with the single hand. With two hander, I can get their late and still hit a really good backhander. My return of serves with my 2 hander is way better then the single hander; that's why I "moved on" with my 2 hander.

disagreed , with that stance you cant hit a good shot it takes too much time ,mr Moratoglu has a thing for the dominant eye , but no one uses that footwork all 1bh players use semiclosed stance if they have enough time , moreover with feet in that position having clean contact point in front is a lot more difficult.
