I just came back from this performance, and it was PHENOMENAL! Patti's acting and singing was everything I could've dreamed of and MORE. And Katrina (who plays Bobbie) is such a delight. Hilarious. Fun. Funny. And made me cry with her performance of "Being Alive."

I sort of "met" Ms. LuPone when I was waiting inside the artists entrance at the theater where she was doing Gypsy years back. I was waiting for the guard so i could drop music off for one of the cast members who was in a reading of a show of mine. All of a sudden I see Ms. LuPone being escorted by 2 gentleman to make her entrance through the audience. She walked by me and glared at me angrily, probably she thought I was there to see her...or she was just mad I had distracted her. I was mortified. But I will always cherish that glare! I did see her in Gypsy (from an audience seat this time) and will always count it as one of the most incredible performances I've ever experienced.

@@johngablesmith4671 Patti on Madonna as an actress: “A movie killer…dead behind the eyes…” among other compliments. I’m a huge Madonna fan, but I have to agree with Patti on this one. Madonna’s not an actress, never was, never will be, because it’s impossible for her to disappear into a character and forget you’re watching Madonna. Ironically, Madonna came closest to achieving this feat in Evita, her best acting performance ever (because, let’s face it, the movie was essentially a series of M music videos for each song, and that’s a skill she’s certainly mastered like no other performer).

Evita had a lot of drama before it went to Broadway. I saw it opening night with Terry Klausner as Evita. Patti blew her vocal cords. Then start a few days later with Patti Lupone.

I feel so fortunate that I saw Patti LuPone and Mandy Patinkin as part of the original Broadway cast of Evita! I also got to see the original cast of Annie on Broadway ! :I also saw the 1980s revival of 42nd Street with Jerry Orbach! Patti's amazing!! :) 🥰

Maybe she wasn't perfect for Evita in singing but she is still my favorite version to listen to soundtrack wise. Even over Elaine and Elaina. Definitely my favorite rendition of Reno Sweeney and Mrs. Lovette as well as Mama Rose. She just has such a distinct voice. I have to say I do LOVE her Lady's Who Lunch BUT Elaine Stritch (and Patti would agree) is the definitive version of that song. I still love Patti's version though.

Oh, she was perfect vocally. I saw/heard her in it. And the album! She was perfect. Believe. -- It's just that the stresses of that HIDEOUSLY HIGH, PUNISHING belting tessitura - and Evita carries billions of numbers throughout the show -- That's like asking an opera singer to do HARD, HARD STUFF 8x a week, instead of only 2!! (They finally let Patti.'s u/s, Terry -- HMM: Ralston? - I think her last name is? No? Drat; I forget; - real good , pretty voice - she was in the orig. cast of Sophisticated Ladies) - do the matinees for her. - PS: If Patti "has the wrong voice for it?" -- THEN NO ONE HAS - or ever HAD: THE VOICE FOR EVITA.

A college friend told me that when she was a teenager, at 16 yo, she saw Evita over 50 times. During that time she became a groupie of Pattie Lapone who groomed her to be her lover and would fly her out to NY when the production left LA for Broadway.
