In the 80's, I dated a guy who had been among the Manhattan hippie/art, social scene; living in Manhattan during the era, of the mid/late 1960's to late 1970's.. working on their various forms of art. Most of them seemed to be from privileged families...they were eccentrics. They owned beautiful lofts, brownstones, apartments; mainly the west village, east village. I didn't notice any of them, working..... It seemed no one held conventional employment....At that point in time, that I had been mildly acquainted, they seemed to be middle aged, in their 50's.

I sat passenger in my moms car as she sung this song passionately every time it came on, each time with as much passion as the time before. I think the 80's were the best decade in music overall, but if I had to put a 10 year period I'd probably do 1974-1984 or 1975-1985 for that same exact reason. The pop charts are littered with all kinds of different genres which I doubt we will see again and that is a shame. Top 40 songs are mass (and over) produced trash now. There are a few decent hits every year, but nothing like the past. Why do commercials and movies that appeal at a younger age still dip into songs from the 80's? I do not think they'll be dipping into the songs from the 2020's in 40 years.

@@colinstafford7846 This song is like a songbird. In essence it sais: F*ck me hard right now." It just uses metaphors. Modern garbage is not really different. Just look at whistle by Flo Rida. All metaphors but essentially he asks a girl to suck his d. I don't see these lyrics as meaningful. As meaningful I see songs that have live advise like "I will survive" or generally digest social problems.

If you haven't had a night where living and dieing were the same thing, then you actually haven't lived. This song brings me to the edge and a rich and varied past has led me to the precipice of recollection and salvation. I know that I have truly lived when I hear this. What else do you want from music ?

I fell in love with this extraordinary girl named Amy Lynn, and because she loved books as much as I do, as my first act of courtship I gifted her "Just Kids" by Patti Smith, whom she knew nothing about. Eventually life happened, and we stopped talking, but later I found out that she came to appreciate Patti Smith. This made me so happy. This alone made my courtship worthwhile.

85 here. I agree to an extent. The mainstream garbage being pumped out and that 95% of todays people listen to is pure garbage. I’m mostly into extreme death/black/thrash metal. I venture into the older classics of the 70s 80s 90s etc occasionally. Was brought up hearing my parents play stuff like this. Fleetwood Mac, zeppelin, Aerosmith. Sabbath. Skynyrd and so on. Found my genre in the late 90s I preferred, that being the more extreme metal style and have stuck with it to this day. I do however appreciate the art of the older style Of music before/around my time. Every generation says the same thing about their music though. There is SOME musicians making music today that are extremely good and make good songs. They are very few and far between though. And it’s mainly the musicians that you do not hear about nor have any recognition that are top notch musicians. If you play an instrument you will recognize a good musician when you hear one. Regardless of their genre they play. Nothing against rap/hip hop etc but those people are truly talentless. Anyone can get themselves a rhyming dictionary and use a computer or drum machine to make a beat and talk behind it. They say rappers are the new rockstars. Maybe they are. BUT that genre is so far gone from What it used to be and in 5/10 years it will be unrecognizable and dead. So let them enjoy their little reign of popularity cause it will be over sooner than they imagine
