We couldn't ask for a better induction speech than this. When poetry was on the ropes during glam and punk's birth- there was Patti waiting for it to be lifted up. In the same way she courted Dylan she courted Lou- reminding us why women were the saviors of music in the late 70's and early 80's. Patti understood the spiritual significance of music- and she led the way along with Kate Bush, Siouxsie Sioux, Chrissie Hynde and so many more towards signifying women not just as "female" artists- but powerful true artists who needed no qualifications. She was the true poet of New York ('75-'77) when poetry had few champions. I love hearing her earnest and soul baring words.

Well, of course I love to hear Patti speak. Over the years I have come to know her better and better. A real human being, one who never speaks hollow words, and who never takes herself too seriously. Maybe that realness is what I admire about her most, aside from her music. // Nice to see Laurie Anderson smiling with admiration and approval.

He observed, he wrote it down, he explained for the knowing and unknowing, put it to music as his form of expressing his life's moments and observations. He was an accomplished storyteller, the best of his craft. He was gifted and as gifted as the intellectual woman Patty Smith honoring his induction in the RNRHALL. This woman is a powerhouse!

Many, many years ago in the analogue age, before the internet I sent a letter to Lou’s record company in the US just saying I much I dug “Take No Prisoners” (yeah, I know) About a year later I received a photo posted to me in London from NewYork - of Lou and signed with the words ‘thank you’. I thought that was pretty gracious of the cantankerous dude - it took a while but he got around to it!.

When I was in Jr. High and High School a lot of my friends were into Kiss and Boston and The Eagles. I discovered Lou Reed after I got Mott the Hoople's "All the young Dudes" album. Who wrote this "Sweet Jane" song? It's a really good song. Next thing you know I had Transformer and Berlin and Rock & Roll Animal. By '77 some of my friends were liking Lou as well.

Seen Lou twice, late 70s, Jimmys Gigger Kc Mo...and on University of Kansas at small 1200 seat venue with balcony .First encore he back on stage 10 min,,,,2nd encore prob 20 min he on stage.About half the crowd left,,,lights on,,i was sure show was over,i didnt think he would do another encore ,,,was with two friends, we left balcony to third row wooden seats in front of stage,,,yes wooden,,i am old,,but i but no more than fifty of us in front of stage,We started rocking these chairs back and forth on floor,,making pretty goid noise,,,yelling ,,,LOU,,,,LOU,,prob 40 mins after 2nd encore,,,he walks out with his band and said take it easy, take it easy,, we were just tuning,,, then play satellite of love then sit down on a chair band took a break , and sit there and that man visited with us played 2 Solo Songs for us,,Herion and i believe perfect day,,then said u guys true rockers but gotta jam to next gig ,,blew us a kiss as he walked away,,we not loud,,LOU ,LOU,,,he pumped his fist walking off stage and helled it hi,,,,I am tearing up big-time right now writing this long comment.I was young when i first listen to his music few years after seeing him in concert. To this day he has a positive impact on me just the way he carries himself and sit down and talk to us like we were his neighbors,,, and I tell you what I truly miss Lou Reed and that's coming from a Kansas man or boy then,,,,,R.I.P Lou,,,,luv ya and miss you very much bro,,,,LOU ,,LOU,,,,

@@markanderson1415 Both Patti and Lou have gained warranted fame in the hearts and consciousness of millions whether or not they are inductees of anything. They added to and transformed life in what is often a cultural , intellectual, wasteland which we endure in the West. I don't know, or care to know who "sexobscura" is. An irrelevancy in the world, obscure sums it up for sure, and likely deservedly so. Patti Smith's acceptance speech is moving and honourable, as is her acceptance of Bob Dylan's Nobel Prize. Their works live beyond our mortal timeframe. The love of the people is extended to all. We live, and they journey alongside us.
