I've been listening to Pat Metheny since first seeing the Group perform in '78. There is nothing else in my life that makes me feel the way his (and the now-departed, Lyle's) unique music still does.
Props to the audio engineer. That is not an easy group to mic up. Great outdoor mix.

高校生の頃、この放送を見ていました。今見ても実にすばらしいステージでしたね。思えば「Mt.Fuji Jazz Festival」も「Live Under The Sky」もこの年は凄く充実していたような思います。

コメント有難うございます。 私は社会人になってから万博記念公園での’88年に参加しました。 "Pat Metheny special quartet" が登場した 瞬間に空気が 一変したのをはっきり覚えています。 ’92年には、さらにグレードアップしていますね。 最後の「Live Under The Sky」となっしまったが残念です。

Sir Paul Wertigo my favorite drummer for Metheny entourage. But my other favorite drummer percussionista..peruvian percussionista Sir Alex Acunia!!
Pedros voice and Pats guitar for the first 3 minutes is truly hypnotic. This is by far my favorite arrangement of this tune.

This song fits perfectly w/ Pedro Aznar's vocal tone - even if he didn't record the original studio version on PMG's superb 'Still Life (Talking)' - the song might as well have been written w/ him in mind.

This video and recording never ceases to make me happy. Pedro is spectacular but when you are working with all that genius on the same stage, magic happens! How fortunate for one to have been at that venue that day to soak in the Metheny glory. Having working in television for a number of years, this video is outstanding. The director really knew what he was doing!

The "Live Under the Sky" jazz festival was held in July/August, normally the hottest/most humid season in Japan. It must have been brutal for them to play in that weather...

oxigeno puro tras respirar tanta mierda de música de ruido y contaminación acústica que a diario nos ofrecen las emisoras de radio vasallos de las discográficas. Escuchar a esta gente, sobretodo en directo (les he visto unas cuantas veces) es una bendición. Tienen tanto lirismo y creatividad que si a cualquier amante de la música no le gusta, tiene un problema.

Musicians(?): Metheny (g), Lyle Mays (RIP, 2020, keyboards, piano), Paul Wertico (d, perc), Pedro Aznar (perc, guit, vocals), Steve Rodby (b). What a show! How sad we have lost Lyle Mays - a unique voice in Jazz and fusion piano for so many years. Love Metheny - he is in love with melody and with organic evolution of his compositions. Check out the version of "Third Wind" they played at that same concert. OMG!

Fiquei uns belos 6, 8 anos da minha vida escutando isso o dia inteiro. Nessa eopoca eu era e ainda sou alucinado por esses discos. Quando els vinham na Italia eu seguiia a tour, o Percussionista brasileiro Marcal nessa epoca. Estou bastante feliz em encontrar esse video assim bem gravado. Thankssssssss Mr Poo Hiro.

I think all the criticism of Pat really boils down to that he is too damn financially successful to be a real jazz musician.

That's an interesting observation. Would you say the same 'problem' affect Herbie Hancock? I mean, he's equally fitting in that select group of 'Jazz players whose financial and commercial success is used against their musical integrity'. So was Miles Davis. it's a very small group...

Off topic, pero razonable que nos preguntemos esto. Cuando otros músicos miran a la cámara, uno no se siente perturbado. Pero porqué será que cuando Pat Metheny mira a la cámara nos perturba como si nos estuviera de hecho viendo? Eddie Van Halen mira todo el tiempo en el video Jump así como todo su grupo, y no perturba, más nos alegra y comparte, así como Charly García de Serú y Pedro. Pero, qué tendrá Pat en la mirada?..
