I was at that very Slipknot show in New Jersey where they brought on the Slip Nutz and it was amazing. I was probably part of 0.4% of that audience that immediately caught what was happening and burst into laughter while trying not to get crushed in that packed, restless crowd. The bit aired on the show about a month later and when they panned that camera to the unsuspecting audience flipping them off it was *chef's kiss*

Pretty sure they're making fun of Shinedown. Patton and them were both guests on April 27th, 2004 ( kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jbhjhZt009qufmw.html ) and dude's singing is very similar to what they're doing. Creed has never been on the show as far as I can find.

@@alexwisniewski Patton also referred to it as early Screamo, which doesn't fit Creed or Pearl Jam. I've either avoided or ignored Shinedown despite being the prime age for their period of popularity, do I dunno if they fit that, either but definitely closer than the other two. Patton also might've mixed up the genres.

Slipnuts is easily one of my favorite sketches. My other low-key favorite one-off sketch is when Conan was announcing future guests on a show, there was a King reacting to the guests, and kept saying "Kill him/her" to each guest. A herald would echo what the long had said after each judgement. When Conan pressed him, he explained that his mind was "raging with syphilis" which was then repeated by the herald. This is forever burned in my brain, but I can't find any clip of it on KZfaq.

Patton Oswalt was a guest on the April 2nd, 2003 episode of Late Night with Conan O’Brien. The musical guest was the “early screamo band” Finch. Pretty sure that’s the “wisdom rock” band they’re talking about, since no one would call Creed “screamo” EDIT: it could have also been the band Shinedown, who appeared with Patton Oswalt on Late Night on April 27th, 2004.

Finch was an awesome band which was influenced by Glassjaw and they essentially created the sound that numerous bands copied into the mid-2000s which became the typical post-hardcore sound. Their first album was pretty great and they were only 16 and 17 when they recorded it. I remember downloading a bunch of their demos on kazaa back before the album came out and songs like 'Ender' (the early demo version blew me away). Their second album was extremely ambitious and underrated with lots of time signature changes and jazz voicings and they would have been 20 and 21 when they recorded that. I never found their lyrics too preachy like other bands such as Underoath.

He utterly isn't cool. He's the polar opposite of that. One might even call him a detestable backstabbing coward.

All I know is rock in the early 2000’s were hip metal, nu metal, emo. Damn it, so Creed was “wisdom rock”?.😅😂🤣

The I remember the Slipnuts sketch, it was hilarious. But the early emo band they’re talking about was Finch, whom I loved. This was fall 2003 and I was so over the moon that both Patron Oswalt and Finch were going to be on the show. Patron did a bit about going to Outback Steak House and how the portions are so outrageous, including a “deep-fried pumpkin.” Love it. Conan and Patton may have not liked Finch, but the crowd went bananas and wouldn’t quiet down when they came back from break to close the show.

I used to have 2 VCRs and would record Late Night bits I liked onto a series of tapes named 'Funny HAHA!" Definitely has Slipnuts on there. I also loved the 'It is what it is' dancers, jar barf, Shoeverine, Stackenbloken...

If you watch the original clip of slipnutz performing at a live slipknot concert, there’s a good amount of people in the crowd giving them the finger… apparently didn’t get the joke 😆

I love rewatching that sketch. I mean it shows thst many people can't take a joke. I would have been laughing hysterically. I think nowadays (compared to 2005 when the sketch was performed) would have been well received better.
