I once saw Paul Foot at the Bury St Edmunds comedy club, he took to the stage and proceeded to say "I can't believe how mild it is, ooh isn't it mild. I woke up this morning and looked out the window and couldn't believe how mild it is, blimey it's mild" this went on for about 15 minutes until almost the entire room was heckling, one guy literally screamed "WILL YOU PLEASE FUCK OFF" and eventually he left the stage. One of the funniest things I've ever witnessed.

Fantastic, i love it when a good comedian isn't afraid to bomb and piss the audience off on a 15 minute set. He was probably doing it to make the other comics laugh back stage. That and make it harder for the next one up. 😆 Apparently Norm McDonald was like that. A comedians comedian.

@@Sandylaner63 ah right, thanks for letting me know, I don't go to shows usually, only guy I went to see last year was John Cleese at the Hamer Hall and it was a bit disappointing sadly, first ten minutes was taken up with Cleese's daughter Camille whose a pretty average stand up and who clearly nobody came to see as we barely laughed, then Cleese was on stage for maybe half an hour just reading his act off an autocue because he's obviously too old now to remember his lines and the act just consisted of him playing python clips which was more filler since we don't go there to watch clips we go to see him, and then he took an intermission and the second part was a Q and A, again I didn't go to see other people asking him questions, so I left.

It's amazing to me to think a professional comedian suffers from clinical anxiety but at the same time makes complete sense. Always found it ridiculous that there's a profession to make people laugh and what effect that must have on someone to feel they need to constantly entertain people. The meeting new people and expectation or the 'you're not funny' comment. I've always thought to do that job you must be absolutely bullet proof, but there must be a really fragile side too. I suffer very much the same anxiety that Paul speaks about and it's admirable how open and frank he was speaking about it. I hope anyone that suffers the same can find their own peace with themselves

Poor mental health seems a common thing amongst comedians. But he could be a bit of a pity party? People do well at something because they can. They have been very lucky, the opportunities they've had. But have they even had their own show? Some people are good at stuff, but not that good.

I used to be in a band that played in smaller venues. It was the number of people (i.e., a small crowd rather than one person), the distance, and being there in the role of a performer and not myself that made it work for me. When I’m at the store and I have to ask the clerk to grab a pack of coffee (they keep it behind the counter), I almost dissolve from anxiety and have to repeat myself because I mess up the words.

Ironically, Tarantulas are one of the most low-maintenance pets I've ever had! I used to be a contractor and was working away from home each week for most of the week. Tarantulas and snakes were very easy to keep, despite not being at home all the time, because they were such low maintenance. I have several tarantulas and they make excellent pets for observation (I don't handle them, I let them get on with doing thier thing). Highly recommend as a pet!
