Means a lot coming from the other side of the Irish Sea. Despite his well documented difficulties the guy is a very caring individual. I know that obviously with having played at Rangers he wasn't everybody's favourite but there are some things that are much more important than football and it's good to see warmth and respect from both sides. @@themanftheworld8439 I'd pretty much agree with that.He still reached those standards on occasion after the injury but yeah never with the same level of consistency. The thing about his Rangers time is that if everyone were to be completely honest the scottish leagues were well behind(and still are) their English equivalents.A player of Paul's quality was always going to set that league alight which was essentially England's Championship league.I'm not knocking Rangers or Celtic but the rest of the opposition at that time were garbage.Paul proved his talent at the highest level in a world cup so it's a mute point anyway...Rangers fans loved Gascoigne and he loved them.

I didn't used to think much of Paul Gascoigne when I first heard of his addiction problems. I used to think 'what a waste of a talent' and 'why did he let himself come to this'. But as I've become older, and from someone who has spent 33 years in the alcoholic drinks industry, I've come to realize what a narrow line it is between success and failure. Here is a man who was one of the most talented footballers on the planet. But more than that. He had, and still has, a massive heart, and energy in his character. That is something to be admired. He knows he messed things up. He knows he should have proven himself to be the best of the best. But he is still human, and still massively respected, as he should be. Many people may not realize the slim difference between success and failure. He slipped up, but has still retained his true personality, and the zest, zeal and skill to get on with people and, importantly, make people laugh, something that is sadly lacking in the world these days. For that, I respect you Paul. Life has not been easy for you. For me, you're still one of the most naturally gifted sportsmen in my lifetime, all 51 years of it. Stay strong, and keep on bringing a smile to everyone's face.
