Gascoigne psyched himself up so much he was out of his mind from the first whistle. It makes you wonder if he was ever mentally fit to handle the pressure of a final.

He was tempted to impress the charming Princess Diana 😜

Still think he snorted a mountain of cocaine before he played that match...

How he stayed on the pitch after that baffles me.

6 years before this final kevin moran got red so how did looney gazza not get red for two crazy challenges

Amazing the way on both challenges tte way Forest players pick themselves up as if nothing had happened. I can only imagine what would be happening today. Gary Parker having to be flown by helicopter to Westminster's Hospital.

Even by 1991 standards that challenge was outrageous, it should have been a straight red with a 5 game ban.

They were probably scared of Brian Clough subbing them if they rolled around 🤣 different game back then, but definitely a red card that first one. Everyone says we never got to see gazza at his best after this, but the goal for England against Scotland is one of the best I've ever seen from an England player 👏 A pleasure to watch him play even 20 years from now he will be worth a watch

Interesting to see a young Keane against Gazza. Clough later said that only Roy really played for him that season, of the whole squad. In hindsight, that game marked the zenith of Gazza's career, sadly. Obviously he'd have great moments again, but from that point on, his career would be marked by injuries and scandal and the overall sense that he would never become what he might have been.

Except he went onto great things with Rangers. I don't care whether your brain cant accept Scottish football as of any standard or not.

If he’d have been booked for the first foul on Garry Parker, how different would Gascoigne’s career/life have been?

Great question. That one moment could have changed...well, everything.

He would remember to control his temperament. But probably the temptation to impress princess Diana was appealing to him . And he lost his logical sense. The rest is history. And we will never see Gazza at his best again.

Same stuff. He would have drank himself to oblivion anyway, just like George Best did. In those days alcoholism ran rampant in football. Ask Tony Adams and Paul Merson.

Booked? He should have gone. That’s a red card challenge even by 1991 standards.
