I've been thinking a lot as of late. Paul McCartney is the greatest songwriter of all time, and there are plenty others to choose from. Not looking for arguments. This is from somebody, that back in junior high, was listening to the song 'Coming Up.' Today, I'm listening to 'Fool on the Hill.' There aren't any bad songs with Paul. How do you just sit there in front of a crowd and write a song? This is all beyond me. Think for a moment, if you will. Everything, having to do with Paul, is like a brilliant ray of sunshine. It's his soul, I do believe. He is peaceful and cares about animals and the world and people. He loved Linda and created a beautiful family along with all the music of 'Wings'. You don't see him on tabloids or on the news because he is a loud mouth wanting attention. I wish the world was filled with more people like him. I'm just wanting to know if anybody agrees and sees exactly what I see. Can I get thumbs up, people? Paul's birthday was two days ago. Happy belated birthday, Paul!

This song. My beloved Mom, a member of The Greatest Generation, opened her heart to the Beatles. She once confided in me that this song, "Fool on the Hill" was her second favorite Beatles song. Her first? "Yesterday", as played and sung by the Beatles, and me, her favorite only daughter. So when I hear this song, I think of my Mom, who could sometime surprise us all with her wisdom and grasp of the mysterious. God love you, Mom. I miss you.

Paul’s “Fool on the hill” is a major song musically and lyrically. Check the way the lyrics unfold by the way he turns the perspective right around. “They are the fools” while he”the man of a thousand voices” It is a hymn for the outsider.

I feel like this song is about the person that we all know, that hasn't done much with their life by the traditional measures. But when you look them in the eye you see they have a joyous glint in their eye, and a knowing smile on the corner of their mouth. And you realise this person exists on a whole different level to yourself, and the other people you know.

Day after day, Alone on a hill, The man with the foolish grin is keeping perfectly still But nobody wants to know him, They can see that he's just a fool, And he never gives an answer, But the fool on the hill, Sees the sun going down, And the eyes in his head, See the world spinning 'round. Well on the way, Head in a cloud, The man of a thousand voices talking perfectly loud But nobody ever hears him, or the sound he appears to make, and he never seems to notice, But the fool on the hill, Sees the sun going down, And the eyes in his head, See the world spinning 'round. And nobody seems to like him, they can tell what he wants to do, and he never shows his feelings, But the fool on the hill, Sees the sun going down, And the eyes in his head, See the world spinning 'round. Ooh, ooh, Round and round and round. And he never listens to them, He knows that they're the fools They don't like him, The fool on the hill Sees the sun going down, And the eyes in his head, See the world spinning 'round. La Choriste - Some more than others. The real fool is the one who can't live with their own foolishness, the foolishness of others and the foolishness of the world. Don't take yourself too seriously. Don't believe everything you think. Listen quietly. There is wisdom in silence. Rumi says: "Silence is the voice of God; all else is a poor translation." The world is infinite in all directions; the fool wants to box everything in, categorise everything in nice, neat little lines. And gets frustrated and angry when the world doesn't follow his model, his idée fixe. Bonsoir! Bonsoir!

Need I say it again. Sir Paul McCartney is a musical genius... An event which prompted this song happened when Paul was walking his dog, Martha, on Primrose Hill one morning. As he watched the sun rise, he noticed that Martha was missing. Paul turned around to look for his dog, and there a man stood, who appeared on the hill without making a sound. The gentleman was dressed respectably, in a belted raincoat. Paul knew this man had not been there seconds earlier as he had looked in that direction for Martha. Paul and the stranger exchanged a greeting, and this man then spoke of what a beautiful view it was from the top of this hill that overlooked London. Within a few seconds, Paul looked around again, and the man was gone. He had vanished as he had appeared. A friend of McCartney's, Alistair Taylor, was present with Paul during this strange incident, and wrote of this event in his book, Yesterday. Both Paul and Alistair could not imagine what happened to this man. He had seemed to vanish in thin air. The nearest trees for cover were too far to reach by walking or running in a few seconds, and the crest of the hill was too far as well to reach in that short time. What made the experience even more mysterious, was that just before this man first appeared, Paul and Alistair were speaking to each other of the beauty they observed of the view towards London and the existence of God. Once back home, they spent the morning discussing what had happened, trying to make some sense of it. They both agreed that this was something others were infer occurred as a result of an "acid trip," but they both swore they had not taken or used any drugs. When Paul filmed the sequence for this song in the film, it shows him on a hilltop overlooking the town of Nice.

I wonder how many middle-aged and older people can listen to this and not burst into tears.

as a young person it sounds more like a silly song than a song to cry to

it has this serious part that constantly gets interrupted by a sesame street type beat and its silly

Beautiful. It took a room full of great musicians to replicate what 4 lads from Liverpool made. They ARE the greatest, never to be replaced. Never.

I bought the VHS version from Virgin Records, Oxford Street. Plain white cover £5. What a tremendous accolade Paul gave his father on "Put It There". If only we could all have had a Dad like that!

From the moment it came out this tune has always been one of my preferred song from THE BEATLES. One which talks about someone who may perhaps be a dreamer with a vision nobody grasps or understands. "THE FOOL ON THE HILL " is a masterpice of Paul McCarthey.

John Lennon started th4 group, brought in Paul and George (through Paul}. John was "primus inter pares." Paul was the pop element. John was the soul. Even Paul knew it.

"But the fool on the hill sees the sun going down and the eyes in his head sees the world spinning round" Paul McCartney is mocking you people he knows the truth hes telling right in your face in his music lyrics that the Earth is Flat.
