Saw him and the Beatles in New Brighton in 1962/3 when I was in Merchant Navy based in Liverpool, (Blue Funnel Line). At that time I didn't realise how clever they (he) was. Now I do. His music will live for ever, like the Masters of Classical works. Can't help liking him either after watching this and other interviews. "Good on you la"!

There were few with Paul's range of gifts. Paul's writing, both lyrics and melody, his bass playing, keyboard playing, his acoustic and electric guitar playing, his Imaginative arranging, his thousand voices on lead and harmony, his intriguing personality and his angelic looks mark Paul as special. At the same time, he possessed a healthy attitude about being Paul of the Beatles. Self-aware. " To themselves Paul and the boys were more normal than normal people, feeling good about life long before they achieved fame and wealth. And to think he hailed from Liverpool where he 'just happened' to get asked by John to join the group, a band which already had George Harrison. Ringo was asked to join soon thereafter and the rest is, as they say, history.

I am not sure that their personalities 'didn't gel' especially in the early days. I think both Lennon and McCartney were soulmates in as much as their mutual love of songwriting and both being able to 'bounce' ideas off of one another. I also think that in those days John and Paul were very much alike and shared a common sense of humour and quirkiness. It was not until John became radicalised in the late 1960s that his personality and outlook changed profoundly and Paul and John ideas polarised.

Ummm... Strange, I thought he would have at least mentioned a drive for writing being fueled by emotion after loosing his mom suddenly. Both Paul & John lost their moms early, that was the bases for the strength of their bond. Now that I think about it, I don't ever remember hearing Paul relate anything in the context of his loss, or anything about that being a binding force between him and John.

By that year Paul finally realized how much money the Beatles would have made without even recording new material, just by making some little concerts once in awhile. I honestly think that Wings was a waste of time. But once John was murdered then Paul could say : "Jesus, I'm glad I made it with Wings ". Definitely the best thing to do was a Beatles come back in the 80s , but Mr Chapman said : "no thanks".
