"Ram" has really grown in stature over the years, to become one of his best albums ever. My favorite is "Chaos and Creation In The Backyard", but this is right near the top too, along with "London Town".

listen to all of Paul's songs and concentrate on the vocal harmonies and backing vocals. it will blow you away

Yet "Dear Boy" trumps them all in terms of complexity. Although this is easily one of Macca's best songs, there's a reason it was never performed in concert, and that's because the harmonies would have been very difficult to pull off on stage.

I would love to have seen Brian Wilson's reaction to listening to this track. It has such a rich and vibrant melodic atmosphere. There's just so much layered beauty that speaks to how detail oriented these artists got when they were passionate about something.

The inspiration for “Dear Boy” was perhaps a combination of John Lennon and Melville See (Linda’s ex-husband of 2+ years). WONDERFUL SONG and I remember the first time hearing it, I was so impressed and still am.

I bought Ram in 1971 & became my fav. He's never matched that since. This the 50th Anniversary 2021. He had all these songs many which would have been on the Beatles next album, if. So without the break up Ram wouldn't have been. Like Sgt Pepper it all hangs together well. It might be better than Pepper with a smile on🥰.

In private conversations, John admitted this was an AMAZING song that in fact it was an AMAZING album. John claimed "Dear Boy" was HE (John), Paul claimed it was directed to Linda's ex .... but - Paul would not have written anything with so much sentiment about Linda's ex. The new releases show a LOT more of great details that were difficult to hear on the original (like the Beach Boys style background chorus). AT this, point Paul was so ahead of John; in quantity of material and real "solo" abilities that John HAD to spend time protesting the war. ON "Monkberry Moon Delight" Paul INVENTED a style of music , broke as many rules in music theory as he could: "So I stood with a knot in my stomach," (7 musical sylables stretched to 11 ) brilliant.

I agree with the fact that Ram was a billiant album, but I completely disagree that Paul had supassed John. Actually John´s Imagine album is also a great piece of work . The difference lies much on the purpose of the Beatles songwriters : John ( and George) were more interested in saying something meaningful and pertinent on that time in History, whereas Paul was recreating himself in terms of another musicality that could sustain the late Beatle greatness and imaginative and colourful albuns. John and George were after the journey to discover themselves, in a way, while Paul never had this particular desire in songwriting.

@@Fanquesfair Paul uses music to discover himself as well. This whole album is Paul realizing he can go on without the Beatles and thinking how lucky he is to have his family. Paul is shedding his Beatles skin and all the anxieties that go with it, while living happily with his family in Scotland.

I'll never forget Denny Laine coming up to me, arm ourstretched for a handshake. It was incredible!! I had sang this song a capella at the Fest for The Beatles. I'm talking to a new friend I made at the fest and we're well lubricated and he goes hey Mina here's Denny Laine. I turn around his hand is out and I just extend mine and said hello and thank you for the great show. He doesn't stick around to chat but it was something else to have him initiate that. As the British would say I was Chuffed to say the least. He heard me sing!! RIP Denny.
