This whole album was so great. It’s almost unbelievable to know how depressed he was just before he did all of this great stuff. I can understand why he adored Linda because she propped him up when he was sinking. And then he did this! 🌺✌️

I didn’t know this, was it because of the split of the beatles that he was depressed?

Yes! He went through a period of time when he questioned his identity apart from the Beatles. It was before he emerged as s full fledged genius in his own right. Linda never left his side during those dark days. Theirs is such a pure sweet love story. I can only imagine that her death nearly destroyed him. It must have been so frustrating to literally have enough money to do or buy anything, yet be unable to help the love of his life.

I think sometimes he does fantastic work when he allows any dark emotions in (which I think generally he's one to try to just ignore them). I think the CD Driving Rain is brilliant. And I believe he was exorcising some demons about Linda's death and such when he wrote the songs on this album. He's gained the reputation over the years of being the light frothy one, but there are unchartered depths there and when he charts them, magic happens.

easily one of my top 5 faves of Pauls solo career. Fantastic choice!! The thing that blew me away about that documentary, was how McCartney wrote these ICONIC songs like Let It Be for example, from like the first word/first note, and building it as he went, line by line, note by note. I guess i always just pictured him and John coming into these studios having written all these lyrics down first, and then making the music around the lyric structure. But that didnt seem to be the case at all. It kinda blew my mind!

While his former bandmates (John and George) needed to hang out with the biggest names on the scene or constantly be under the spotlight to be successful again after the Beatles disbanded, Sir Paul literally started from scratch, in the muddy countryside of an isolated Scottish farm, for the first time in his life all alone, just him and his creativity. He released two fantastic solo albums and then started one of the most acclaimed and successful rock band of the 70s , Wings. While his former bandmates (who absolutely wanted to escape the Beatles to pursue their solo career) basically didn't tour during the 1970s, Sir Paul came from the humble Wings home tour of UK Universities in 1972 to put on the greatest world rock tour of the year 1976 .. And he will continue to work and sell millions of records for another 40 years after the end of Wings ... Paul is not only the greatest creative genius of modern times, he is the greatest hard-working musician on the scene because he deeply LOVES being a musician more than anything else in his life ... He loved being a Beatle more than any other band member ..

Great job AGAIN Harri! Paul was so melodic he almost could not just write one melody in a song. So incredible!! Thanks!

Yes indeed, that entire RAM album ws a delightful surprise when it came out. The two you chose belong together and are probably the best pair on the album. Thank you for a fun reaction/commentary.

This is Paul at his best. Try "Dear Boy", I think it's the most complete song on the album. Solid all the way through.

You can definitely hear how Jeff Lynne of ELO was influenced by McCartney and The Beatles. The light strings in this are nice and the sound of rain and thunder reminds me of the ELO song Summer and Lightning, which was released about six years after this song.
