Sadly Denny Laine passed away today I think....a fucking good tribute to him and wings... Paul rocks

The last track of WIngs over America - I enjoyed watching you go through this magnificent album. I also just read Denny Laine (79) passed away - spending his last days singing and playing Xmas songs with his wife. His work with Wings stands out, a great musician.

Not sure if you've ever taken a look at the lyrics but here they are. The title "Soily" makes sense in the context of the song. My personal favorite recording of this song, in particular, is the one you just played on the Wings Over America tour album released in 1976 (which has been remastered). It's a killer song which provided quite a massive end of show climax! At this point it had not appeared on an album; it had only ever been performed live. So people weren't expecting it and it would've been a nice rockin surprise for the encore. Perhaps audiences might have thought they were getting a sneak peak at a new song, despite the fact that it was pretty old (1971). It was for the Bruce McMouse Show soundtrack, which was one of those unrealized McCartney projects. It was meant to be one of those live action animated hybrid films. It was about a group of mice who lived under the stage? They had done some work on it already. they would block segments for the live action during soundcheck in early Wings concerts. Henry McCollough began to really resent this, since he'd signed up to be in a rock band, not be a sidesman to animated mice !

Yeh Paul’s songs run the gamut. He’s so diverse in his creating. He does it all…..hard rock to lullaby’s and everything in between! And he does it well! Unfortunately his voice is shot now from all that screaming. Thank god we can still listen to him when he was in his prime!

At this point Wings truly sounded like a BAND and not Paul with some backing musicians. But the lineup could never stick and then after the Japan bust the band was finished. Wings was truly a 1970s group as the Beatles were a 1960s group.

You should listen to all of Paul's album's. Chronologically, "Wild Life" was his third album. It's an interesting LP... and they are all worth a listen. You will find some excellent songs on every album.

A heavy metal singer !

Wow.... are you going to try and add that one to your Wings set..? Good luck with that... ; ) "Soily" was the name of one of the mice in "The Bruce McMouse Show" along with "Swooney" and Swat". Paul opened his 1973 UK live shows with "Soily". The song was one of the earliest songs Paul wrote for Wings - dating back to late 1971. I think the lyrics are just Paul having some fun (having a laugh)... while rocking the crap out of the song. "Liar, cheater, jungle chief, Saint, believer on relief. Action painter, Hitler's son, And a commie with a tommy gun." Only Paul would come up with "Hitler's son... and a commie with a tommy gun". He's something else... And, yes, Jimmy's guitar was wailing on this track. Paul did use this song as the B side to the live "Maybe I'm Amazed" single that was released in February of 1977. So sad to hear about Denny's passing... exactly 50 years after the release of the "Band On The Run" album. Just want to mention Denny's biggest hit songs... He had a UK #1 with the Hollies ("Go Now") that came out in 1964. He co-wrote "Mull of Kintyre" with Paul and it was the biggest selling single in the UK for a long time - selling 2.1 million copies just in the UK. I also love "Don't Let It bring You Down" which he co-wrote with Paul. R.I.P. Denny.

And critics complained that Wings was an overrated pop band lol. They could do anything. Variety is the key to success or you become stale as a rock...

The greatest thing about Soily is that somewhere a recorded studio version of this song exists, but it has never been released even in bootlegs. The only versions of Soily that you can hear are all live versions, with different arrangements over the years (From 1972 to 1976). It was never performed again after this live performance was finally released, ironically. It even became the B-Side of the very successful live Maybe I'm Amazed single in early 1977

Rest in Peace, Denny Laine. You will be remembered. Thank you for all the great music.

McCartney TO ME has never ever got the REAL TRUE CREDIT for being a HARD ROCK AND ROLLER! RIP DENNY LAINE! As I said, I wish they had flipped the last two songs, HI HI HI with that hard rocking ending would be a big bang. Also, consider McCartney's song WHAT IT IS for your live show.
