I personally like the way some people have it set up now, where only the money and assets received during marriage are split in half, while everything earned and held before marriage remains yours. It especially makes sense if you're in a couple with a joint account and you've got accurate records of your assets beforehand, so granted it doesn't work for everyone -- but it works, especially for women (who tend to lose out the most).
