25 years ago today, so happy to say I was there. Homelands 99 was one of the absolute best.

For me, 95 to 99 were my best years.

I swear - Paul Oakenfold was so good he actually made records better simply by playing them. Silly statement? Maybe, but something mysterious happened when he played tunes. The driving energy of this set is truly portentous.

I was 19 downloading these in the Appalachian hills at OU in the USA....I felt like I was discovering the next planet- 20 years later at almost 40....it’s still the sauce! You are a profit Oakey!!!

What blows me away about Oakey is that he would take tracks that sounded average and unremarkable played on their own but placed within a set in the right place became unbelievable. He never played individual tunes - he created a wall of sound that no other DJ came close to replicating or has since. It takes you to another world. Not sure how he did it, must be harmonic mixing/track selection and very intelligent use of the tracks themselves and knowing exactly where the energy and emotion was and wasn't.

When Dj's could actually mix , and the crowd was there for the music and to dance , not film it on their phones ! these days its all about being seen , in those days people went for the love of the music ,...................if you are one of the people who was into proper trance in the 90's you know that we where experiencing something truely amazing ,

WOW!! I haven't heard this mix for at least 12 years. I WAS THERE. A WHOLE CREW OF US WERE THERE, THE ATMOSPHERE WAS INCREDIBLE. NEVER BE MATCHED NOW. I recorded the Essential Mix at the time but I've no idea where it went. WHAT A NIGHT. What a set. What an opening tune. At the time I was into Sasha and Digweed more than Oakey. But this had me up, dancing. remembering . Creams 6th birthday too. Ahhhh the memories!!

This guy is my hero of all times when it comes to Trance. I grew up listening to him, and even today, his music moves me like no other Trance dj. they dont even make music like this anymore... it died around 2001 2002. Its sooooo good, and moving, pure energy all the way through, I believe this is his best mix, as all the songs on this set, are top notch classics

I was on stage with him in 1999 at homelands in mosney ...... unreal experience the circus tent was dripping the sweat back down he went on at 5 pm to 7 and it was like 3 in the morining in Ibiza. And he opened with a pint of Guinness not a tune ... the place went fucking nuts ......

I will still come back to this set, even 20 years into the future, just so I can time travel back to 1999 every once in a while. Absolutely wondrous!

What a set! What memories of a better time! I remember going out that night and coming back to my mates where I had set a timer to tape this. Got back about 5 in the morning spangled, and at some point remembered I'd recorded this. Not knowing what to expect I pressed play and it was one of the best couple of hours of my life. Agreed Oakey's mixing was like listening to a stampede of wild horses a lot of the time, but my God, he knew how to put a set together.

Jon Vesta - Gull is an insane track... I'd give anything to hear anthems like that played at a festival in 2015! I really hope Oakey doesn't disappoint at Creamfields this year!

I saw him live at Burning Man in 2000. I danced to his mixes near 20 ft lighted mushroom 🍄 sculptures. It was amazing 👏. At age 53 now, I truly miss my youth and these times 🧢👟🍭💜💛🖤💖.

What a time aye? Before mass migration, before wokeness, before anti-white race hate, before division. Everyone just got a along. So glad I experienced that wonderful time. I mean, what a time to be young aye? Would you rather be young now or then. Today with the shallowness that social media has brought in. So many people I know, family, friends, let's have died since then. It's heartbreaking. If I could go back and live the last 20 years of my life it would be from 99 onwards. Just lucky I'm still with the same beautiful women as back then. ❤

First dance festival I attended was Homelands 99, lost all my mates within the first hour of arrival, no mobiles to meet up again, no worries, a variety of late 90s sweeties available for purchase in certain tents if you stood near the back, positive vibes the whole day, made a load of new friends and had one hell of a comedown the next, memories of this set are hazy but I was definitely in the tent, good times!

Oh the memories this invokes! So many amazing times seeing Oakey live esp late 1990s early 2000s peak perfecto! IMO best music ever recorded was the Essential mix world tour of 1999 on Radio 1 all of Oakey's sets.

That was an utterly electric night where I walked out of that tent dripping with sweat and glowing from mitsi's. Indescribable atmosphere which seems completely alien when I watch festival sets these days with pyrotechnics and everyone watching the DJ's (playing pre-recorded sets) through their mobile phones. What I would give to be back in a field in Hampshire for a night with Oakey, Sasha, Cox, etc

This was my first ever festival my older brother took me and i was 16 or 17 always remember the oakey set as the peak for me, we had to travel 150 miles to get there which was fun but navigating the london underground with comedown to get to kings cross and home the next day it was not pretty

Man I was only 3 when this set was recorded I was born too late wish I could have experienced some of the great trance sets from the 90s and early 2000s

I like edm and modern music but for me this just blows my mind how they made this stuff in the 90s and the tracks have so much energy and emotion to them, on this mix the last track is just mind blowing

So around 2003 I moved to Maui. Had made a bunch of money in sales and of course shipped my poor mans sports car Mitsu GStT. It did have a chip from Dillinger in so cal as well as headers and cat back exhaust. Me and the wife were told to take the road to Hana when we moved there. I can't tell you how felt to race along roads that no modern car should navigate and this was our soundtrack. Anyone who has been on the road to Hana can attest to this: your life flashes before your eyes as you narrowly miss some mokes driving opposite way with three kids sitting on the bed of the truck. We went way to fast but it felt like life was a movie and we were the stars.
