Lakres fan but I respected him a lot. I expcted the ball to go in whenever he got the ball in clutch time. The Celytics are abosolute trash for trading him and not allowing him to retire 100% a Celtic. He was their Kobe! The Lakers could have rebuilt faster by getting rid of Kobe when he was past his prime but they didn't. The fans generally were ok with it too.

I don’t understand why people hate Pierce or the 08 Celtics, I’m not a fan but I understand the 08 Celtics were special and Pierce is one of the best SF to ever play. On top of that he’s one of the few players who played an ENTIRE season of 82 games, I don’t think people know how rare that is, especially in this day and age. On top of that, he played those 82 games on a bad Celtics team, lol they had nothing to play for, yet he played EVERY game completely committed.

I went to a game in spring of 2001 few months after this. He was playing by then. They played the cavs. We had nose bleeds but nobody was really there so we snuck down and sat behind the hoop near cs bench. I stepped on the court during halftime and got up close to pierce and walker. They seemed like giants, I was only 13. Pretty cool moment

People don't understand: Bigger guya are probably in MORE danger than an average sized person in a club or in the streets. The average person would feel relatively confident fighting a 5'9 male in a 1v1 street fight. But a 6'7 guy like Pierce? A lot of guys would be afraid to lose and wouldnt hesitate to pull out a weapon. A kid who played ball for LSU named Wayde Sims lost his life like that. Got into a fight at a Southern University homecoming party in 2018 and some dude ended up shooting him. Lesson is you cant ever take anything or anyone for granted. Pierce may have thought because he waa bigger than everyone and a millionaire that he could do whatever he wanted and stepped on whomever's toes he wanted. Some guys don't mind being reckless to do what they think is "defending their honor."

As a Lakers fan I couldn’t stand the Celtics but always had love for Paul Pierce and Antwoine Walker. Those dudes were beasts in their day. One thing about Paul was that he’s not athletic and hella slow, but boy could that man score! Nothing but respect for this man 💯

Showtime Mike he made it happen for sure. Always liked him. Never was an antwon walker fan though. Crazy that they were successful with two not very athletic dudes on the squad. Carmelo Anthony, he’s the most unathletic player I’ve ever seen. Can shoot the lights out though. But whenever he dunked you know he was going home hyped.

I was out one night with friends in Newport RI where the Celtics had training camp that week, Pierce came into a bar we were at with his hood on super low key. He slithered through the crowd past me and I said what up and kept it moving, but I remember thinking to myself about the stabbing and how scared he must be of crowds like that. Any moment that shit could happen again. I know the crowd Pierce surrounded himself with back then was different, but he probably has still never fully shook that scared feeling and paranoia of being in a place surrounded by tons of people you don't know. Totally understandable how it changed his life and I'm glad it seemed to change him for the better and surround himself with better people and situations.

I was working in the Clinical Research field for a company in Waltham (20 miles from Boston) in very early 2000's. Up the street was the Health Point Gym a new 70,000 sq ft facility that I used to go after work to shoot hoops and lift weights during commute hours before driving home. The Celtics used this as a training facility and I always saw the well known retired Celtics ML Carr that lived nearby playing hoops with local members on regular basis. I was no kid but in late 30's I could still military press a set of 8 of 200 lbs at 190 lb body weight. This tall young dude starting talking with me and said his brother played for the Celtics Tony Battie and he said he was Derrick (he was 6'9) and he was working out with Celtics in off season. Maybe once a week we ran into each other for about a month and worked out a little together and talked. I always knew about Paul Pierce getting stabbed at a Boston night club in a very serious incident with a couple of fellow ball players. I never realized that Tony Battie who played 1998-2005 for Celtics at Center was with his younger brother Derrick at that night club.. Time I met Derrick was shortly after the the Pierce incident but I never put two and two together until recently 20 years later. Derrick and his brother were from Dallas and he played college ball for Temple and around this time in 2000-2001 was playing CBA ball for Connecticut Pride that one year. I understand the two brothers helped save Pierce getting him to the hospital quickly. Mad respect for Paul Pierce after all this trauma months later he plays all 82 games. Pierce was a super class man and Celtics great.
