You can tell why Zidane rates him highly. The only Midfielder that Zidane ever spoke about with total admiration.

A non-media player whose unreal talent and divine technical quality are only properly recognized by those who really follow and effectively understand about football. He was the most technically gifted player in several of Manchester United's winning teams, and due to the fact that he always plays alongside popstars super hyped by the media, he's unfortunately less celebrated than he should. Total and absolute control of the game, a real maestro, the silent genius who was only noted for what he did on the pitch. A true baller, a living legend! Pure and absolute genius!

He couldn't tackle, the amount of times he went in late was terrible.

He never really played as a 6, that's nonsense. He played as an 8 or as a 10. He was either an attacking minded 8, or a 10... Never really a great box to box, didn't have enough athleticism. Nether was he a holding midfielder. I don't think he was very complete at all. Both Lampard and Gerrard (especially Gerrard) were miles better defensively, among other things. Although being comoplete gets overrated at times. You don't have to be complete at all to be a brillaint footballer.

He is actually very underrated in his generation because of how he avoid the media and his loyalty to the club. Most doesnt know that he dictates how United plays. If he plays good, the whole team plays good. Sven Goran Erikssen wrongly utilize his ability.

It just occurred to me that other running attacking players throughout the various Utd teams were enhanced because they had such faith in Scholes to find them it would trigger them to run into spaces that perhaps they wouldnt ordinarily run into...because they knew he was good enough to find them however the ball came to him and wheverever he was on the pitch. Incredible. His effect on the way the whole team played was profound.

Paul “no nonsense” scholes
@AdmV0rl0n7 ай бұрын
If Brady was a great quarterback in american football, then to say scholes became a great quarterback in football is only telling part of the story. In his later years he dropped deeper and became the conductor, the architect, the play maker. Short, or long 60 yard to someone's feet. And when we speak about people passing and playing, the great spanish players of that ace Barca side had much of the ability, but you won't find a show reel of them hitting 60 yard precision missiles, over and over, again and again. In the short passing game and possession game, he had everything. But in saying that, it doesn't begin to explain his forward look up and passing. And this play and stretched play is partially why United would get goals late in games. And I've not touched on how good he was as a foil, forward, striker. Even in the part of the game people like to select as a flaw - his tackling. He grew up watching Robson, Moses, Whiteside, Nobby stiles - he wasn't merely an artisan with the ball at feet. No. When the team was without the ball, he was as red a devil as anyone, and did the shift work, and was not afraid of all for scrapping for the ball. Some of his talent - was not things that can be taught. But the parts that can, workrate, tackling, doing the dirty part of the game - he added these to the talent. An absolute red devil, legend, and remains undervalued and under estimated. Man o Man I was privileged to watch him over many years.

What people don't mention much nowadays, and I'm surprised with it because it was a great quality of his for the most part of his career, was his timing of his late runs to the box, his positioning, the finishing too, his eye for a goal. Top class, he could almost play as a striker (he did play as a second striker, behind Van Nistelrooy for a while and did great). He just had that insinct and knew where he needed to be when those crosses were coming in.
@vs63009 ай бұрын
He's the real deal, was far better in real life than his video highlights. In fact the weakest point of his game ironically is the long crosses he was known for could only manage 85% accuracy still placing among the top crossers. In everything else he was sublime.
@CoolMikey817 ай бұрын
😂 And from what website did you get this stat from them. i hardly seen him get a long pass wrong. I’d say 90 to 95%
@vs63007 ай бұрын
@@CoolMikey81 Yes its true, I checked several websites and to my surprise he wasnt even top five accurate crossers at the time and another shocking stat was the he only attempted an average of 4-5 crosses per game, in fact Carrick had more crosses than him, meaning crossing was not a major part of his game. His short passes later in his career when he was CM/CDM was actually top notch, 93-96% (in some games 100%). Media can distort our perception on players. Feel free to look it up pls.
@siberianTiger6395 ай бұрын
@@vs6300are you talking about CROSSING or LONG PASSING? I'm totally confused right now, because he was indeed a great long passer, especially in the later part of his carreer, not sure about the early years. But he definitely never did many crosses, I've barely seen his crossing the ball at all. He was rarely on the wing, neither did he do corner kicks or set pieces much. He rarely used the inside part od his foot (except for short passes), the part you use for crosses, in general.
