Weller still delivering the goods

Spot on analysis. A marvellous uplifting song incorporating so many little facets of all his work. A joyous chorus elevates the tune and the lyrics are as visual as any words, they accompany the song so well. Pw is a poet and a national treasure. Genius

Nice commentary. Yes, such a great track. Simple yet evocative, with the lyric hitting on the emotional level. That chugging rhythm is a nice change from the typical 2 & 4, with the openness of the bridge and chorus shifting from tension to release in a magnificent manner. Paul has a great sense of dynamics as well as a real grasp of soul in the authetic sense (nice that you mentioned the female vocal, it really adds so much). As simple as this tune is, those instincts of his are in full play. Also great use of guitars. Hopefully this and the new Liam Gallagher & John Squire album will spark a fresh interest in guitar, something that, with the exception of the Pretenders and Johnny Marr has faded from the British pop/rock scene since the demise of BritPop. I've liked Weller from afar, loving some tunes - typically the slower piano ones like 'Wishing On a Star', 'The Cranes are Back' and 'Glad Times' plus earlier greats including 'Above the Clouds'. But 'Soul Wandering' guarantees I will pick up the new album '66'.

Evocative of the Fleetwood Mac era soundscape and lyrics to my ears. It's real music and not that tyical pop style playing on the radio nowadays.
