Paula Yates talks about her work, men, underpants and being a dutiful girlfriend on ‘The Late Late Show’.
Despite leaving school when she was 15 years old, Paula now writes about music for 11 magazines and newspapers. She also contributes a column for women’s magazine ‘Cosmopolitan’ where she wrote about what makes men sexy.
The other day she had lunch with broadcaster Terry Wogan who she finds sexy because;
"He has all the attributes that most girls with any sense look for. He’s over six foot, for a starter...and he’s a Paddy, and that’s a great help I think."
Paula is very taken by Irish men as they have a;
"Good line in chat so even if they’ve got a face like a turnip you can shut your eyes and you can listen to all this guff that they talk, and it sounds like they’re telling the truth."
A couple of years ago Paula published a successful book of photos ‘Rock Stars in Their Underpants’ featuring famous people in their underwear. She was not short of participants willing to feature in the book. However, Roxy Music singer Bryan Ferry and Queen front man Freddie Mercury both refused.
Paula does not intend to settle down to be a dutiful wife and mother as she already considers herself to be a dutiful girlfriend. As for motherhood,
"I’d be a very good mother as long as I only have boys...I’m going to have all boys."
This edition of ‘The Late Late Show’ was broadcast from Goff’s in County Kildare as the RTÉ studio in Donnybrook was being used for that year’s National Song Contest. Paula’s partner Bob Geldof also appeared on the programme with his band The Boomtown Rats. The couple married in 1986 and had three daughters; Fifi Trixibelle, Peaches and Pixie.
This episode of ‘The Late Late Show’ was broadcast on 13 March 1982. The presenter is Gay Byrne.

Odd the docu on her does a Princess di comparsion! lts too much. l recall her "fame" - She as a best a b-lst whose show stayed on the air only because Bob produced it. The first half of her "career" she did full on pornographic photos and chased Bob until he finally married when her oldest was 2 ears old. She was frequently called out for her lying to the press. This woman was the most famous wanna be at most.

Paula "friend" Gerry Agar once stated that she thought Pixie was Michael's. Granted Gerry may not be the the best source for the truth given her history (After Paula was upset with Gerry calling herself their PR agent in an article, she planted drugs and called the press with a sex photos story, supposedly found under the bed even though Paula and Michael slept on a futon.) Gerry claimed that at least one of her kids with Geldof was really Michael's. Maybe this is why Paula started the invitro story - so as not to embarass Kylie whom Michael dated when Pixie was conceived. Could also explain why Michael was forced into court - his DNA would be proof of infidelity and thus Bob wouldn't have to pay any or as much support. And if Paula was intending to tell the world the kid's true parentage, that would explain why Bob was so adamant to gain full custody. Who knows.
@wickedwitchoftheeast88
@wickedwitchoftheeast88 Жыл бұрын
Nah thats bollocks probably started by Gerry Agar, Paula's best friend Belinda Brewin said Gerry was a pushy school mum of one of her daughters apparently she basically harassed people in the industry claiming she was Paula's agent/PR. I think Gerry Agar said Michael hadn't wanted Tiger and he said to Belinda "I wanked into a plastic cup for months to have the baby". Belinda didn't speak very highly of Gerry Agar in her book and I believe her

Paula got a lot of his money. She made Michael's financial advisor Colin Diamond, Tiger's godfather & POOF - her millions in legal fees, debts are gone and she purchased 2 homes in London & Hastings. Mags speculated she got a lot from his life insurance. THis explains' her shifting from blaming Bob for Michael's depression & being venomously against the idea of an accidental death - to doing a 180 and saying she was challenging the corners report....yet never did! Life insurance is rarely payed out in the event of a suicide unless you can make a strong argument that the death is at best unknown. Sad that according to Tiger, she got nothing, even after Bob sold Paula's homes!! So here did all the mola go after Paula passed?

@@kernelkelly1213 What's inaccurate? Anyone can look up and see that Paula made Colin Diamond (Michael's financial advisor) Tiger's Godfather. Paula did interviews shortly after Michael died showing off her new 2 million home. This after her claiming she was broke and had lost her Clapham home to creditors for failure to pay her bills. There are photos of her new home where she posed with Tiger in her new bedroom. Later Paula also was able to buy a second home in Hastings. I don't agree that Tiger got nothing though. Look up Tiger's record "Tiger Lily's Sad Meltdown". She thanks one of Diamond's sons in the credits. She obviuosly continued her close relationship with the family, which make sense. Diamond handled Michael's estate and made sure Paula was taken care of, so he probably handled Paula's estate.

Poor Paula was destroyed by the press for just being honest. During her divorce, she stated that Bob had tried to choke her, controlled who she could call and her money and that he had 6 affairs. Claire King would later brag that she was one of his affairs. Through all this the press just called Paula a liar!!! There was no MeToo movement back then to speak up on victim's behaves. Even sadder is when she had a suicide attempt and the press said she did it for attention. Can you imagine if someone said that about depression and suicide today?! Even the press saw how Bob was trying to make her homeless and broke and still took his side. It was so unfair.

Paula was a groupie who left school at 15 because her home life was so awful, that she felt running off to be a pop princess was better. She was groomed by the industry and was talentless, but Bob was desperate to be with someone gorgeous and it leveraged him to heights he would never have achieved. Paula and Bob did what Hollywood and the music industry do today, they fake marriages and relationships for the whole illusion in order to make money and keep the media happy. In the end the truth rises, and something has to give. Paula and Bob were desperately unhappy, he was a big mouthed unkempt disasterous street urchin, and she was a desperate fame seeking bimbo. Together they made a niche in a time when notoriaty was favourable. They met at the right time for the wrong reason and under the wrong circumstances and sadly, their children all paid the price for their egos and choices. I like Paula and I thought she was refreshingly honest but she tried to be a starlet and a charismatic icon however, she didn't quite have that quality at her core to carry it off like so many beauties of the past have. She tried so hard to fit in and portray herself as virginal and edgy but realised you can't be both. Towards her late thirties and after losing Hutchinson, I think she became more humble and down to earth, more of her true persona was revealed which is ironic, considering she died only three years after him before finding herself emotionally. It is a tragedy in its own right, however, Paula was not a victim, she forged a path for herself at a very young age knowing she was probably going to get burned, but continued anyway. She was reckless and driven by ego, lust and desire. There is no doubt in my mind Paula used Bob as a platform to propel herself to another level. Sadly the only thing that happens there, is karma catches you out in the end because it realises youre an imposter on that part of life's stage. Paula was probably a really nice person deep down, but her intentions were not authentic. She paid the ultimate price in the end by sacrificing so much of her truth and adopting a false life because she wanted it all. In the end ended she up with nothing. Bob I'm sure, regrets stopping Paula from being happy with Michael. Michael was too complex and to much of a free spirit to be contained by either of them. This is the so of tragedy that happens when you mess with the natural laws of life and think your way is the only way; clearly this whole family suffered the consequences and full fate of fame.

Awkward silences from the audience at the punch lines. Bob's band called her "the limpet". She is very cute here, but never stood a chance with the moral degenerates who spawned/raised her. Doubt she could have dealt with ageing, either. Australian 60 Minutes does a moving interview with her in her final year.

She started to look old at an early age due to drugs - shame as she was exceptionally pretty

@@desertrose1226 She was always quite homely she had like most the freshness of youth when she was young that is. She garnered the attention she needed and didn't get as a child by doing and saying outrages things bleached hair loud clothes provocative often overly (and embarrassing) sexual behaviour she always came over as false and not naturally "sexy" in any way very contrived. So sad.

I think she would be a blast to hang out with. Love her charm and vintage style. So sad that she died so young. I think the public was horrific to her after MH's death.
