Having fished multiple s in different sizes and colors, kzfaq.infoUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 this is by far my favorite. One thing to be aware of is the sided willow blade. One side is silver and the other is the green/orange shown. This is not bad, just unconventional. In terms of fishing, I have found the lure works just fine without a tail like a craw or shad. That addition is up to you. Also, the hook part where you attach the swivel snap or tie the line is a problem on baits these days, since it's able to slide up and down. However this lure seems to be tight enough that that doesn't happen often, and you can solve it by putting a thin slice of medical tube over the hook before attaching the line. Like others have said, it's really magic on a good windy day.

Been 4 years since I learned how to make these and I haven't had to buy a set since. Hands down the best one. Tremendous video

Great to here that they are working for you. I picked the hook size as a compromise so i could catch smaller fish like gar up to cod or big Pollock, but i think hook size and type is really a personal thing i have used everything from 1's to 6/0 for cod. But i haven't been sea fishing for while and i have been thinking lately about building a small ply outrigger canoe and going a bit native on a welsh beach for week in the summer and just living on barbecue mackerel and chip shop chips.

I made some of these a while ago after watching your video. Only got round to using them on Thursday and caught around a dozen good sized herring and a mackerel on them. Great stuff Paul.

I'd love to do that myself! I'm a big fish eater and love this time of year when I can stock up my freezer with enough fish to eat for the next month or so. It's so expensive to buy in the shops atm, even the humble mackerel isn't that cheap anymore.

I've had other BPM baits kzfaq.infoUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 before and they've pretty much always came through for me with the suskie smallies here and even with the walleye and pike, but I realized I didn't have an "in-between" pattern so this junebug one fills that role in no problem. it pairs up magnificently with a junebug Zoom Z-craw Jr that was trimmed a couple millimeters before the hook slots and rigged sideways for that fatter panfish side profile while still being a nice'n'compact presentation, a real power-finesse bait. Hell, it was so pretty I even bothered to fotosketch the pic into a watercolor painting image just to show you it's beauty! Even the blades are really well made, sure, they're not of Hildebrandt-level exquisiteness but look at the bead's reflection on the colorado blade, definitely well-made! The only "problem" spot it had was a bald spot in the skirt but it was nothing that I couldn't easily fix with a but of tuggin'n'shiftin' with the strands for a couple of seconds, besides that it is pretty minty!

the only thing i have found when fishing is theories seldom catch fish, experience and experimenting are the only reliable ways my fishing has improved. The only advice i can give is try out the different lures and find out for yourself what works, when and where. Cheers

Looking back at my amateur radio background, I suppose that silver plated braid from a coaxial cable could be used as well? Just take care that it is not copper, if not silver plated guess that alluminium braid would do just as well. Check in the nearest cable store. And of course, thanks for the great explanation Paul!

This is an older video but vary informative, I’m looking at doing my own mackerel rigs because using the ones they sell at the tackle shops aren’t strong enough, I keep getting cut off by the toothy critters , and it needs to be strong enough to haul them up on the pier about 20’ ft up , do you think it will work using thin wire from hook 🤔 to an say 40-50 lb monofilament for the main line ?
@davescheer50382 жыл бұрын
@Patrick Bantering , I’ve found something at Walmart , I wanted to use a thin wire but all they sold in the fishing section was thin solid tire which is still to thick and stiff , but I went to the craft section and found what’s called “ beading wire “ it’s stainless steel multi strand coated wire on a roll it’s really cheap compared to hard wire and it can be tied into a knot I don’t know the tensel strength but I tried my own strength test with a suitcase scale and it maxed it out and I couldn’t break it have caught bonnet head shark 4 1#2 ft long and a king mackerel on it and it didn’t break they just scuffed up the plastic coating , and it had I think 60 yards on the spool for like $ 2.69 great find !

One question for you; I find you use sticky tape to position snatchers than thread. Is there any reason why you don't do thread wrapping then apply varnish?
@PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman7 жыл бұрын
It was just what I had at the time when i was learning to tie them, I found it quick and easy to use tape.

Do you need to use 35 pound line?
@PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman10 жыл бұрын
No is the simple answer, i use these for boat fishing around kelpy and weedy reefs, i found thirty five pound could just about cope with the conditions. When i use them for casting from a beach i use 2-3oz weights so thirty five pound works as a shock leader so the rigs do not snap. if i was using heavier weights i would need a heavier main rig line, for a 5oz weight i would need 50lb, for a 6oz weight 60lb . Cheers

Thanks very much.
