What would your favorite part of this 7-Layer Salad be?

My mom made this salad in her pale green Tupperware bowl every time she made it. I hated the peas too 🤭 but I would give anything right now for her to still be here and for that 7 layer salad.

I make mine in a 9 x 13. easier to get a little bit of everything at once. Love your show.

I always make 7 layer salad at Christmas time. Looking at your ingredients, mine differs quite a bit. Chopped iceberg lettuce, thawed and drained frozen peas, diced celery, diced onions, chopped green pepper, layered. Completely seal with miracle whip, sprinkle a little sugar on top, top with cheddar cheese and chopped bacon. Wrap up and refrigerate overnight. Yum.

You are such an awesome lady. Everything you cook, I love. My 91 year old mom watches your show daily. On June 11th, she will be 92 years old. Paula, please send her birthday wishes. Her name is Earlene.

When worked in a casino buffet years ago in Lula MS. A lady walked up to me in distress choking; had already turned blue, i spun her around and did the Heimlich a couple of times, she finally coughed up rice that’s what she was choking on. I was so thankful that I had learn to do that. I also saved two small children the same way.

I use sliced water chestnuts in mine to give that extra crunch.

What a beautiful salad. That is a good recipe for summer cookouts. I enjoy hearing about Michael. He really has a great personality. I love seeing him with you in the kitchen. Yall make such a cute couple.

I also love layered salad! I put the peas on top of the lettuce still frozen.....the lettuce then becomes incredibly crisp! All the rest is done just like yours....delicious!!

Learning these common medical procedures is very important because like u said we never know when we might need to use them…Especially if you have young kids around… Way to go Michael kudos to him.

I think it would be neat seeing the whole crew cooking together preparing a supper.

My dear aunt made 7-layer salad every year for our family reunion...IT WAS SO GOOD! She finally gave me the recipe, from memory, but mine never tasted as good. The dressing was missing something! Now, I'm betting I know what it was, it's the sour cream & lemon juice in the dressing! Thank you for sharing your recipe. Think I'll take you suggestion & add some celery & bell pepper next time.

Have never made a 7 layer salad..going to try it. What I have done is use the himlich maneuver on my son when he was about 2 years old. Choked on an orange segement. Talk about scary…still gives me the chills just thinking about it. Thank god it worked!🇨🇦❤️

Finally made it to Paula Dean’s restaurant in Nashville! An awesome experience! The meal was totally delicious and the perfect amount of food served for my husband and myself! The server, was amazing! Made my way to the store afterwards and made sure to buy some of that Paula Deen seasoning!

Layered salads are so pretty!

We call it BILLY GOAT salad and yes, I put sugar in the dressing. It's always a hit!

Love this salad. Sometimes I go a little wild making this salad… It may have seven layers or it may be 12 just depends on what is in the fridge that needs eaten. The dressing, cheese and bacon makes it delicious no matter what the layers are….

Oh gosh...that looks SO good!! Would love to try it some day. The only 7 layer salad I've ever made consisted of Romaine/spinach, sliced hard boiled eggs, cooked chopped bacon, thin layer of chopped red onion, layer of frozen peas (thawed), sealed with plain Mayo and topped with shredded cheddar. It is so good. Serve it often with Easter Ham. I bet your dressing would be so much better than plain mayo.

I would also add the sugar to the dressing. It needs it to balance the lemon juice. I always add a small bit of sugar to potato salad or macaroni salad. It enhances the flavor in the same way as salt does.

My mama made this as well I miss those days and mama too! Those peas have always been my favorite part YUM!

You have a good heart, Paula. God bless you. I might try to use a couple teaspoons of Monkfruit Sweetener rather than any sugar, to keep it safer for blood sugar issues. Has anyone tried that?

A good friend and boss of mine found and made this recipe about 40 years ago and I've been looking for it ever since! It was fantastic,and was early the same except I think that she had more layers of the peas & Mayo layers than your recipe ,and it was theauo by itself with just a thin sprinkling of sugar over each of the mayo layers ...it certainly is refreshing and tasty!

Dear Paula love seeing you again! There was a layered salad set in aspic that the grandmother of a friend used to make that started by laying a foundation in gelatin with bits of colored peppers (roasted), dill and other bits made into a beautiful design. then the rest of the layers of veggies and cheese, ham salad, chicken salad etc or she would make it with tuna salad and salmon salad and shrimp salad and at the end she would cover it with more of the aspic mixture which I believe was broth based with chicken broth or fish broth respectively. Then she would place it in the refrigerator to set for 24 hrs. Warm it a bit in a hot water bath to loosen and turned that thing over on a plate..... It was a sight to see!!! a work of art to see the clear coating with those designs and see how beautiful it was when she cut into it and served you a slice. Does anyone know what that salad is called? I have never seen it since. It was a sight to behold! Pretty to look at pretty to eat!

I made my first so-called layered salad this weekend but listened to the advice of others (on another website) and made it a TOSSED salad instead ... mostly the same ingredients but thoroughly mixed / tossed. I love bacon but decided to go a little healthier and used diced turkey ham for the meat. And I allowed it to sit in the fridge for about 12 hours for the flavors to meld. It was a hit, even from my son-in-law who is not an enthusiastic veggie eater :)

Hi! What my friend does is put cheddar cheese as the second layer to the top and then green olives as the last. It is really pretty

The salad looks so pretty! I have to share a story.. my daughter who is now 18 once choked on a life saver candy when she was 4. I never gave her hard candies as a little one unless I broke them first into a very small piece, but she asked me for a life saver and for some reason I thought because it has the hole in the middle that she would be ok. Well within a minute she came to me choking. My parents were there and my mom started freaking out and walking back and forth trying to get my dads attention. Both were moving too slow so I took my daughter and flipped her upside down and smacked her back. The candy came flying out. I was lucky that she was little enough for me to be able to easily pick her up and flip her to do this and that it worked. Lessen learned that life savers even with the hole in middle are still dangerous! With a bigger person you have to get behind them and wrap your arms just below their rib cage and squeeze very hard and up bending them forward. If you are by yourself and choking get behind the back of a chair and use that to try to do the same thing. Very scary!!

Layered salads are favorites around here. I usually use a glass 9x13 baking dish so it's easy to get all the layers. I'll use whatever veggies I have to top shredded lettuce (tomatoes only in season, then well seeded so salad doesn't get soggy). Generally it's lettuce, celery, bell pepper, radishes, onions (green, purple or Vidalia). Sometimes I'll use broccoli or cauliflower (well chopped) and/corn. Top layers are always peas, creamy dressing, sharp cheddar and bacon just before serving so it stays crispy. 😉 Thanks for sharing!
