I have almost lost count of the number references there are in this fugue to the B-A-C-H motif. The notes are often subtly woven into the music - sometimes forwards, sometimes backwards, sometimes transposed, sometimes together but often consistently spaced out (i.e. with the notes placed on similar consecutive parts of a beat or bar). They can't all be happy accidents! The levels that Bach's mind worked on is utterly mind-boggling!

@@ianletbey Okay, jokes aside...one of the more prominent examples is at bar 26, soprano (where Bach inverts a figure from the counter subject) - there is a very clear B flat A on the second half of beat one followed by a C B natural on the second half of beat two (the sequence actually also continues into the second half of beat 3 with D C sharp...) Take a look at bars 36-7 and you will see something similar going on, but this time in all three parts (allowing for transposition of the B-A-C-H motif). Coincidence? Maybe. Deliberate? A distinct possibility!

That's impossible! St. Annes is great. My brother had a complete organ works album and would drink and listen.....decided to "rate" them....very funny....each following piece got more and more STARS as he got soused! I just noticed YOUR THE GUY WHO PLAYS KEYBOARD WITH ELEPHANTS. Next step: make a keyboard Peter can actually play with his trunk.....include very low octaves with enhanced bass??? There is a research group doing this with dolphins, monkeys, whales. They want to open up the internet to all capable animals. I once "bumped into a CA grey whale" while snorkeling and we hung out together for 20 minutes.....it really affected me for a year. Hoping for a "Peter composition". Ross

I feel like you play it here as a detached triplet (please correct me if I'm wrong), though I notice with some other performances the music feels like it's speeding up on beat 2.
