What was that old footage of James Hetfield playing an unplugged electric guitar...playing country. From some old doco. Can't recall. Kid could play nice country though!

@shayneoneill1506 2 жыл бұрын
@@oinkooink I think Hetfield is a country fan, I remember reading that somewhere. Doesn't surprise me really, he was always the beer and pickup-trucks type of guy in the band. With that said, having grown up in a country music family, I can safely say I detest the genre. Though thankfully my dad at least played bluegrass rather than shit country and western (Bluegrass has *way* better musicainship, although the pedal steel guys in country and western do tend to be pretty skilled)

I think Chris is a metalhead even if he doesn't know it, the fact that he got so into it he broke his low E string and was practically beating the guitar while playing tells me he had a lot more fun than he let on. Also there's the obvious fact that it sounded amazing and would be right at home on an early bluesy metal album.

The big "tell" that you guys aren't metal players is mostly the picking on the rhythm guitars. A lot of straight power chords directly on the beat stuff, sounded very Sabbath-y which is great but it's sort of foundational to the point where even by the 80s most riffs would have had more muted tremolo picking and gallops breaking em up. Samurai Guitarists was actually pretty convincing. Paul's sounded kinda super modern with chords that would be at home in a prog song or something.

Sammy G's was convincing in terms of writing, but it seems like he's a bit confused on effects. Metal tone is so much more than just throwing a shit ton of distortion on. His desperately needed some EQ and compression, you can barely hear notes through all the distortion; the high end frequencies are totally saturated beyond recognition.

I was about to write exactly that. Sammys sound was fitting for the riff in my opinion. Davids tone could have done with more gain. I think metal musicians have less issues with sacrificing clarity for more punch, but then again, you need less gain for openly played chords. If you want to chug, a guitar tone with too little gain will sound like coming from a toy guitar. And Justin was just killer. Really loved all of it.
