Turning the 4 "unshuffled" into 2 then into 1 was pretty easy to figure out, but the rest of it was really amazing

9:12 I like how you were actually trying to see if Penn made any words with your deck, too funny! The magic doesn't stop until you leave the stage ;). Also, I just realized Penn and Teller were both ferociously inspecting your table after you left the stage, looks like you really fooled them hard! :D

I think this was easily the trick I enjoyed the most from all fool us seasons. True master!

Before I ever saw this or you I had a math professor show me this trick before and he even explained how this works but then you did that last bit. WOW I have no idea how you managed that.

A long time ago (30 years or so) my firm was lucky enough to have hired Paul for several ABA trade shows. We met in Pittsburgh when I was consulting with Mellon Bank. Amazing then, more amazing now. His Tonight Show appearances were magnificent.

I've watched you, Paul, since I was a little kid growing up and saw you on World's Greatest Magic in the early 90s. I also watched Penn and Teller growing up as well. I became a restaurant magician during my college years (and Castle member) and learned some of your work and respect you talent and genius. It was so, so great to see you on Penn and Teller's Fool Us and be able to fool them, and it was also very amusing to see Penn as a huge fan of yours. Thanks for what you do and contribute to the magic community.

Always loved the Unshuffled move, simply one of the most elegant card tricks that will never cease to dazzle the audience.

Damn... I worked 15 years in the SFX industry, making the impossible possible, I even worked on a few contraptions for magicians, but it never ceases to amaze me how skilled some of these people are, and I love every minute of watching them. Thank you very much Paul.:-)

To be honest, until recently, I thought Shawn Farquhar was the best fooler, but now I'm having my doubts. Beautiful presentation, clean sleight and an amazing trick. Love it.

I think my favourite part about your three appearances on this show is how exceedingly kind and genuine you seem. Part of magic is to put on an act or a front, but every time I've seen you here, you appear to legitimately be a kind man who loves what he does.

I've been watching this video over and over trying to figure it out... and I think I have a theory. The card force and the Unshuffled part are pretty well known, so I won't go into that, but I'm more interested in how he got "King of Spades" and "Penn & Teller" to show on the same deck, without any (obvious) deck swap. I think the angle of cards is important, like a lenticular print where you see a different image depending on the angle you look at it. Notice he always holds the cards angled upward so you can see the Ace of Spades on the bottom. However there are some letters on one side of the Ace so you can tell which direction he's holding the deck. I think one side of the deck has "Unshuffled" printed on it, and the other side has both "King of Spades" and "Penn & Teller" on it, and depending on which way he's angling it you see one image or the other. After Penn admits Paul fooled them, he even says "if you look at the exact right angle..." as if he knows the angle is important. I could be wrong... that's just my theory. But wait! Wouldn't Penn and Teller have seen that when they asked to inspect the deck? I think there's one last move that happened after we all thought the trick was already over. There WAS a deck swap, and Paul performed it in plain sight. When he tucks the deck away in his pocket, he does so away from the camera, and then when he walks around the table he taps his coat pocket to indicate that's where he stashed the deck. I'm betting he stashed it somewhere else, and had a completely different deck in his coat pocket. When P&T asked if they could look at the deck, Paul was all-too-eager to whip the deck out of his coat pocket and hand it over. I'm guessing this was a bit of a "meta-trick" to fool P&T and they didn't even see it coming. Could be completely wrong, but I came up with this story in my head and I like it!

That ending is definitely one for magicians, being someone who's favourite part is figuring out the mechanics of a trick this was a real treat.

I know the math here, which means I Know how you do this right up to the last last "Penn & Teller"... and he checked them on a bias / angle so I'm clueless.

Mr. Gertner... That trick was patently amazing, and your performance was a thing of beauty. Glad you stumped P&T... Best of luck for your continued success.

The first unshuffles are just an interesting property of interleaving a deck and what you can set up for it. Any IT person should have seen right through it. The last part, the third message, is almost certainly a switch. Not because I saw it happen, but because he stuttered when questioned, as if he wasn't sure which deck was supposed to hand over.

An interesting thing that i noticed is that the cards weren't in a random pattern at the start. the colors were in a pattern that's fairly easy to see, even if you don't pause.

The cards are marked on both sides. He was able to combine the markings so as to form all three phrases: UNSHUFFLED KING OF SPADES PENN & TELLER

I'm not into magic at all, but I can see how it all was done until the end when the message "Penn & Teller" appears. Assuming he didn't swap the decks, I have two thoughts on that: * he must have erased "Unshuffle" and stamp "Penn & Teller" in its place while we was holding and showing us "King of Spades". * half the cards (say odd) have the "Unshuffle" print, and the other half (odds) have the "Penn & Teller" printed. The reveal of one or the other is done by keeping one of the sets slightly pushed inwards relative to the other. Similar to interlaced TV signals used to work. I love now knowing if any of these is what he used or not.

6:13 is there a deck switch.. so that he can show a different deck to penn (if he asks to) ??

When he riffled, watch closely, he closes the deck and selects the king on purpose. Probably with a finger brake he set up when he showed her "they were all shuffled, see?" But the un-shuffling was pretty neat. I liked that

Unbelievable. Even the 4 perfect farro shuffles were incredible, let alone the final P&T bit.

So I am less than a novice in the art of magic. I didn't rewind and pause too much, only once as I recall. I can figure out how you brilliantly shuffled the cards to spell out the same word four, two, and one times. I think the same method was used to spell Penn and teller, however, it was more refind and careful. Really enjoyed it. I'm almost certainly wrong, but that's my guess.

the cards are in sequence in the beginning each "unshuffle" basically reorders the sequence (math trick), last part shows the other side of the pack you can because he flips them before squaring them

When he told Allison at the beginning that the cards were in a random order, were they really shuffled? Looked like they were in sequence starting from both ends tho :^)

Best card trick i have ever seen

If you look closely after 6:12 you can see as he turns and starts to walk around the table, that he takes his right hand with the deck and hides them (in a hidden pocket?), and then places his now empty hand into his right outside coat pocket to make it look like he placed the deck in there, when in fact there’s already a different deck in that pocket, the deck that he will eventually give to P and T when they ask to see it.

Hi Paul, out of curiosity, how did you come up with this trick? Did you start by thinking of what effect you wanted and then work out how it could be achieved? Or were you thinking about what you could do with a certain technique? Or something else entirely?

pretty sure that they gave that one, you can see that when they inspect the cards, he's doing EVERYTHING to cover up (the camera's view) the fact that there is marker on both sides of the deck, one with the "unshuffled" and one with "pen and teller".

Penn asked to see the deck he used to do the trick! The one in his right trouser pocket not the one in his jacket! Good bluff coming round the table :) bit over animated tapping his jacket pocket gave it away.

It's all about the order of the cards. Depending on the order it can say different words. He is a master at moving the cards anywhere he wants in any order.

There is something in the unshuffeling obviously , but there was just one thing I noticed , when he unshuffled the cards to get a perfect deck all the aces were in start but the ace of spades was at last and was in reverse order. Surprisingly the card was also king of spades. It seems a little fishy.
