My father, former Master Sergeant, gave me the "You have to have confidence in your gear" talk. The second half of his version was "so push it till it breaks well before you need it, then get them to issue you another one. You'll know exactly how far you can trust it at that point." (Second great piece of advice : "When they ask for volunteers, raise your hand. You'll get a wider range of experiences and will get known as the effective guy. Everyone is afraid to volunteer, it's low hanging fruit.) (Third piece : "The personal kit the military gives you is your parade kit. Lock that stuff in a closet and spend your first paycheck at the pawn shop getting worn in gear you can actually get dirty ")

That is extremely sound, and thought provoking advice. I'm glad I read your comment. I better start saving up for another M&P. I love that gun, but I may need to push this one to its imits to have a better understanding for this firearm. I'm already the first to volunteer at everything. It made me supervisor at my job. Don't have experience with the personal kit, but I glean a lot from it. There are still some things I could acquire for my job that we don't already have. Happy to have found your comment. This video came out at a very appropriate time for me. A few months ago I purchased a Bersa Thunder 380 CC. My initial impressions of the gun were extremely good; I found it easy to use, comfortable to handle, I liked the action, and I could shoot it accurately. Two weeks ago, that all changed. I was at the range practicing with it and the slide stop fractured. The gun is still under warranty, but UPS and FedEx will not ship guns anymore, even though warranty service shipping is legal. So, that left me with an FFL transfer as the only option, with the combined fees of shipping and transfer being around one hundred dollars. So, I have been debating if I want to spend the hundred dollars and send the gun to get warranty serviced, or if I should just save the money to buy something better. I realized though, that I will never trust that gun again, every time I fire it I will wonder if the slide stop will fracture again. Even if they send me a new one instead of repairing it, I will still wonder if that failure was a one off and I just got unlucky, or if it will happen with that new gun. Even worse, my friend owns a Bersa Thunder 380 (Not the CC version) and three times now a spring has jumped its track in it, rendering it completely non functional. So at this point I want nothing to do with Bersa. After watching this video, and realizing that I will NEVER trust that gun again or any Bersa for that matter, I think I will save the money and put it towards something better.

If you still want to stay with the 380 pistols, I've heard good things about the P365 in 380. It might be bigger then what you're after, but the nice thing about it is it seems to be able to use the regular 9mm mags. Though I would test each one before you put your life on it, but should still do fine in range practice.

In Germany a Car is every two years checked if it is dangerous. He didn't payed the Checkup and the repairs for it and then it had several breakdowns and big repairs. Around 120k Miles at this stage. For the repairs from year 8-13 he could have bought a new one. And he did as it is an cheap car, but this time he will keep it only for 9 years. @@smokinhalf timing chain on 2.4l ecotecs tend to break after 70-110k miles, costs 2k to replace generally since you need to drop the engine out the bottom, replace and retime it. that's the big one with chevys that i'm aware of. a lot of newer dodge trucks had their designs updated which caused issues of not getting oiled enough on bearing surfaces, some cummins (dodge) motors in the late 2000's and early 2010's would snap their crank shafts. new cars are made of overpriced pot metal, and all of them (hyperbole, just most of them) made after 2015 have DRM on all their parts which can brick the car during PMCS.

I think the view counts speak for themselves. More than twice as many people want the long version as the short one. As long as it's not too much trouble I think having both versions isn't a terrible idea. Though you got 2x as many views on this one as the other, there are still people who prefer the shorter version. I enjoy that you didn't compromise on your vision for the video just to make is shorter.

Extreme truth in the analysis of this video. Case in point. 28 years as a peace officer, after 3 years combat in S.E.Asia as a soldier. Several engagements in the field in both professions. My personal conclusions in them: As a soldier, I had trust in my M14 over the other's M16, based upon personal use and experience. As a peace officer, with three shootings during my career, the S&W .357Mag Mod 28 saw me through them all. Other officers, armed with a 9mm, expensed 8 to 10 rounds from the 9mm to drop the suspect. I ended my fights with one round from my 357Mag. Conclusion; 9mm was insufficient to stop the threat. Then when revolvers were no longer allowed, and the 9mm autoloaders were issued, I had zero confidence or trust in them. Am "I that guy"? Draw your own conclusions. But you're not going to find a plastic striker fired 9mm in my safe. But there's lots of 357Mag revolvers and 45 Colts to tell you about what I trust. 'Nuff said I believe. Ranger, out.....

Thanks for doing this video Paul! I’ve recently tried getting my wife into firearms for the purpose of self defense for the past few months. I’ve tried getting her into 9mm, .357, and .380. She’s grown quite fond of the Sig Sauer P365-380 despite many “firearm experts” claiming that .380 is not an effective round for home defense. Nevertheless, her grouping on .380 is far and away better than my own grouping on .45 ACP despite having far more experience in firearms than her. I’ve been shooting guns since I was 12 and she started last year. Hardy harr all you want about my inability to group accurately on .45 ACP but I feel much better about her firing accurately at 10 yards with .380 100 grain than I do firing .45 ACP at the same distance. That’s why my home defense gun is a 9mm.

Well I'm definitely that guy. The only two calibers that I'm perfectly comfortable with are the 357 mag and the 45 acp . I've got a Ruger EC9s 7+1 micro 9mm, but I very seldom carry it anywhere outside the house. I know that it's 100% reliable, hits where I aim it and has the "best" self defense rounds available. But I've had mixed results when dealing with garbage bandits. Sometimes it only takes a single round, but other times it takes several rounds. My 45 on the other hand has always done the job with a single round using high quality HPs. I've also put over 1400 rounds through my 4" aluminum frame 1911 45 in two years with exactly four malfunctions and all four were the result of using a cheap ProMag seven round mag. With my Chip McCormick eight round mags, that little 1911 has run every kind of ammo I could get my hands on, from Browning FMJs to steel case Russian FMJs and everything in between. 185 gr,200 gr,210 gr,220 gr and 230 gr FMJs and HPs. I know that it will always go boom every time I pull the trigger. I trust my life completely with pistol. I've never trusted a 9mm and I never will. And I'm not going to change my mind. Every woods hunter knows that at close range, a big heavy bullet traveling at modest speed will drop a deer faster than a small light bullet going much faster. I've seen that with my own eyes several times. A cousin I used to hunt with always carried a 270 Winchester with 130 gr bullets and I always carried a Marlin 336 in 30-30 with 170 gr Remington Core Loked bullets. We killed several deer together and the majority of the time, the deer he shot would run several yards while the ones I shot in the same place dropped right where they stood. Mine had less meat damage also. The statistics charts also show that a 45 has a higher one shot stop rating than a 9mm. The king of one shot stop ratings is the good ol 357 mag. Since it's been around since 1935,there's a huge amount of data to back that claim up. Actually, that's the caliber I wanted most when I got enough money to buy a high quality carry gun. Unfortunately that was in 2020 . I went to every gun shop in my little town and the only 357s that I could find were Taurus snubbies. I refuse to trust my life with a Taurus. Ever. I really wanted a Ruger GP100 357 with a 4" barrel. I'd settled for a S&W,but in 2020 the pickings were very slim here in the NC mountains. So when I found a Springfield Range Officer 1911 45, I grabbed it. I just barely missed the same pistol except that the one I missed was a full sized, steel framed model. That would have been my choice. +P rated and then I would have ordered a Wilson Combat 45 Super barrel and spring and a 460 Rowland conversion. That would have been a great all purpose rig. You can shoot standard 45 acp in a 45 Super barrel and switch to the 460 for deer hunting and black bear defense. For anyone that's not familiar with the 460, it's got more energy than a 44 mag and leaves the 10mm in the dust. Plus it's a heavier, larger bullet diameter. Even Alaskan guides are starting to go with the 460. Well, maybe someday. It ultimately comes down to what each individual feels like what's appropriate for their particular lifestyle. I love all guns, but I will always be a 357 and 45 man when it comes to my EDC. That's what makes our community so great. So many choices and never enough money to get em all. Another great video Paul. I look forward to the next one.

I personally carry a newer, 4-5 year old, rock island armory 1911 fulls size government model, I carry hornady critical duty, +p ballistic tipped hollowpoint, is wilson combat 8 round single stacked magazines. I have fired hundreds of rounds through these magazines with that ammo and that firearm and have had zero failures. I fully trust that firearm with those mags and that ammunition. I've had more then one person tell me its not enough ammo. I know I can resolve any self defense situation with that setup with that amount of ammunition. I had seen the results of the over pentation. As I became more familiar with the weapon and caliber I developed trust and faith that when I pulled the trigger it would fire. I never had a malfunction with the Beretta. Before that I was issued a M203 and absolutely loved it. I'm not a big fan of the 5.56, but it's what I had so it was what I used. I'm sorry for rambling.
