PAULSBO - A Short Film

Poulsbo (pronounced + originally names Paulsbo and accidentally renamed Poulsbo), is a small city in Kitsap County of Washington state, about an hour drive from Seattle.
The city is known for its Scandinavian heritage, nicknamed Little Norway, with a unique Norwegian-themed waterfront downtown and a scenic port. It’s surrounded by the forest and the water inlets of Puget Sound with easy access to Bainbridge Island, Port Townsend and other cities in the West side of Washington.
We moved here from Los Angeles in February 2022, this video is our thank you letter to Poulsbo - for welcoming us with its warm people, incredible nature, and ever-changing seasons.

I grew up in Poulsbo and moved all over since and god I can never truly describe Poulsbo to people, it's a place you can't fathom until youre there and the world around it seems dull, this made me miss home a lot

I grew up there. Spent 18 years of my life there. I moved to the Midwest and I miss it there every day. I miss the smell of the pines and the feel of the ocean. I miss the rain and culture. Wish I could go back.

I have tears in my eyes right now! What a beautiful love letter to Poulsbo. My husband, Mom and I are moving there next month from Port Ludlow & I’m so excited!! Thank you for making this film, it truly gave depth to how I feel about my future home!

I lived in Poulsbo for a short time as a child. Now that I'm all grown up life has handed me the opportunity to go back to the place that feels most like home. I can't wait to share this town and the warmth and joy it brings with my own childeren.

Lived in Pousbo area on acreage with a beautiful creek for over 45 yrs and I feel ever so blessed, you put into picture and words how grateful I feel.

We are flying towards Seattle tomorrow and our final stop will be Poulsbo. We will stay there for almost two weeks and explore the surrounding area. We are very excited...

I was stationed at Bangor Sub base for 3 years.. 2003-2008. I haven't been back to that area since 2008.. but I still think of it to this day.. jokingly saying "when we retire.. we're going to move to Pouslbo".. its a beautiful area. Loved the video. Made my heart happy. Thank you

Thank you! We spelled it Paulsbo as it was the intended spelling (and pronunciation) from the founders. There’s a fun story behind the city’s registration history (the post office couldn’t read the handwriting in the application, and registered the town as Poulsbo).

@@ournordhome yes. Welcome to our town and hope you’ll discover many of my fav places such as Foulweather Bluff and The Poulsbohemian Cafe. Yes, that was intended but it’s not the name of the current town you are promoting. If someone were to try to find it, it’s not on maps and our official Post Office is not that. I remember making that mistake when I was new to the area….:)

Uh. No. There are car fights/damage on the waterfront everyday. The freeway noise is constant and traffic is backed up from Poulsbo to Bainbridge ferry terminal. Yes it is the transplants that r assholes. Sorry folks but it wasn’t like this just 3 or so years ago. It’s almost, not quite, California… but it is pretty.

It's a nod to how it was originally spelled. At the end, they switch to Poulsbo .

For comparison, with a population of over 12,000 today, when I graduated from North Kitsap in 1964, the signs at the city limits proclaimed a population of just over 1,500. The population increased by 87% between 1970 and 1980 when Bangor became a major naval installation and has never stopped. Poulsbo is filled with wonderful people but I have to laugh when I am doing my docent duties at the Heritage museum because the vast majority of locals who complain about the growth arrived in the last 20 or 30 years. It's still a wonderful place to live.
