HOW TO FEEL A WIDE SWING ARC & GAIN MORE DISTANCE (Simple Drill)

Here's a simple drill that'll allow you to feel a wide swing arc and gain more distance. You can literally do this around house, at the range, or even when you play.
A big part of getting a wide swing arc is getting used to the feeling of it. If you've been hitting with your arms forever and not getting more distance then this is going to feel new and different. This means you need to repeat it until you get used to it to the point you can do it in your swing.
A wide swing arc will eliminate a chicken wing as you swing. You fix your chicken wing and you will hit the ball so much longer and straighter than you ever have. So give this drill a try so you get the feel of a wide swing arc. Once you do, you will get more distance with driver and hit your irons better than ever.

Thanks so much. Been keeping it simple since my first lesson. If it's too complicated you will never get it. If I can make it simple enough that you remember it, then try it and get some results you will keep doing it. I used to make it complicated when I was learning it many years ago. This got me nowhere. Once I made it simple it was like a huge weight was lifted so if I can pass this on to others it should stop them from going through years of frustration like I did.

Paul, I purchased your book and video series the other day, and WOW! The way you explain the positions and the swing really make sense. I’m still working on position 1 and 2, and am taking my time (as you recommended). It’s winter where I live. Indoor practice without a ball really makes sense. Glad you like them. Thanks. I have taught many people in your situation who took a break and are getting back into it. Anyone in this situtation will hit with their arms when they get back into golf. This is due to human nature. I talk about it in this tip: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nNt_fdunxJiWeJ8.html Sounds like you understand the concept of not hitting with the arms and using your body and are seeing results. Just stay focused. You've got this.

Another great tip. I have started using your other tip of swinging the club at waist height and rotating my hips followed by another with club at ground level as my pre-shot routine and it is helping immensely. Once I address the ball On the course I admit to lapsing about half the time but it is definitely helping. Switching to your method is a slow process. I have it now on the range but definitely harder taking it on the course and in competition but I have gone from 22 h/c to 17 in the past few weeks and that is largely down to being much straighter.
@paulwilsongolf
@paulwilsongolf 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Yes it does take time because it is the opposite to what you want to do. At least you know the concept and the thoughts and feelings I want you to have. Do daily practice swings so you repeat the movement as much as you can without having to go to the range. I wouldn't expect much in a competition right now. You need to get used to this stuff. Keep in mind this is a swing for a lifetime. So even if it takes you 3 months to get it that's a small price to pay.

Very good. Ladies can be tricky sometimes. In talking to them over the years most ladies (some guys) are scared to let it go because they think it may hurt if they hit the ground. Hitting the ground hurts when you are holding on super tight and the muscles are locked up. If your muscles are relaxed and you hit the ground it doesn't hurt. So there is a bit of a trust factor there. As I say to anyone learning anything new tee it up about a 1/2" as you learn these new moves then gradually lower the tee. This way there is room for error and there is less fear of hitting the ground. Slow easy swings is good too.

@@paulwilsongolf hey, if you get the chance to play around with it, be cool to see a drill. Maybe it could be a teaching thing like how you show yourself swinging like with a bat. I know there has to be a motion in throwing a disc, that does the same thing as when the arms rotate on the downswing in golf causing that acceleration through the levers.I just can't figure out how to do it. Touring pros are throwing discs 6 to 700 feet.

I couldn’t stand the feeling it gave me at first, but when I combined it with the body swing the neutral grip allowed me to let go of using my arms, my wrist hinged naturally. I then added what you taught about ball position in our stance. I’m finally getting divots. It’s such a hard thing to trust and go against your natural instincts, it’s like surfing, you have to fully commit and trust the process. If not your gonna wipe out. Hopefully my sons will trust this same process. I’m a believer ! Mahalo 🤙🏾

Using your relaxed hinge technique I drove a 291 par 4 yesterday to within 5 yards of the front of the green. I also made a couple of other great drives but that one was the best. What they all had in common was the effortless feel and the connection with the ball as my wrists were releasing. There was no mistaking the feel of the ball impacting at the full length of that long lever. I knew they were great shots before looking up. Since I've been incorporating your techniques for only a couple of weeks, I made a few not-so-good drives as well, but the progress is unmistakable. My iron contact is much better too, but a nagging tendency for them to push or push/fade still has to be overcome. I'm pretty sure that's timing or grip. More range time should have that ironed out (no pun intended) soon. Thanks again, Paul. What you're teaching is fantastic stuff.

Hi Paul could you look at my swing I just posted me hitting my 7 iron, I’ve been able to get my swing path figured out by using your technique but I’m having issues hinging at the top when I get too high at the top and hinge more than I feel comfortable I shank or miss strike the ball awfully. However when I don’t take my back swing too high up and limit my hinge my strikes are great for the exception of distance(distances are ok just not as far as they could be) I appreciate all you’ve done for me!

I really don't look at swings. I do that for you then everyone will want me to do this which is just do not have time for. I work with people live on my app CoachLink. You can find out more here: bodyswing.com/coachlink You are hitting those bad shots because you are thinking about your hands/arms as you set the top. You need to hit the position then switch to legs and hips to hit the actual shot. So go slow on the way back and set it. Almost stop at the top. This will give you time to switch to the lower body. Also, tee up your ball 1/2" to give you room for error. Then you will see that you can do it.
