UPDATE 4/13/2021 - As of most recent patch, side sprint is no longer possible, and auto sprint delay is reduced to match a new button sprint delay, so in other words button sprint is redundant if you turn on auto sprint. I recommend using auto sprint!
There's more to survival than just shooting gud... learn to move and peek like a pro!
14:52 for a practical example
To see just how fast you can move and a great example of peeks, check out this duel with 0.o... (OhDotOh - very skilled shooter + peeker) • AK 1v1s vs 0.o (Oh dot...

More things to note that I forgot to mention:
1. Due to ping, if you are retreating into cover while someone is peeking into you, they can shoot and kill you without you even seeing them, causing you to die behind cover. For this reason, in a high ping environment, if you get surprised out of cover, sometimes its best to just commit and go for the trade rather than try to run away.
2. The bullet line that is drawn when someone kills you is not accurate at all, it is a very basic guess. If its going through a solid wall its because they killed you in the open on their client, but you didn't die for real until you made it into cover.
3. The ping counter in game only goes up to 255 (unsigned byte) then it rolls over to 0. So if you see someone with 20 ping, they might actually have 275 ping. Pay attention to if their ping fluctuates or they teleport as often happens when they are extremely high.
4. Aim for the head. Killing them as fast as possible means less time for them to trade with their ping.
5. Even if you are comfortable using the touchpad/joystick click as the sprint keybind, if you are on steamVR, I still recommend re-binding the sprint button to something else, as most VR controller joysticks are poorly made and will degrade quickly if repeatedly pressed.

UPDATE: Side sprint is no longer possible, just use auto sprint! No need for button sprint! This means side to side movement is less zoomy, but thats for the better TBH. Also they nerfed the HELL out of playspacing so theres no point to moving IRL anymore. More things to note that I forgot to mention: 1. Yeah 1. is an interesting as you saw the shooter shoot you before you ducked behind cover, he killed you however the msg that you are dead has not been processed so you can shoot back or drop nades, in this situation you must count the bullets received by sound/viewing your own blood splatter, its usually 16 bullets per second so 5 bullets in 300ms in general and your peeks and should be for around 300ms while shooting 5 bullets with the last bullet being at "Reverse Peekers Advantage" which is the correct geometry used so as the last bullet you fire hits the victim and all he sees in the barrel of your AUG/M4 disappearing out of view

What are your thoughts on learning to swap hands with weapons and training dual eye dominance? Especially around left corners if you're a right hander
@chillst3p
@chillst3p 3 жыл бұрын
Swapping hands isnt really important because unlike in real life you can easily clip your weapon stock into your body in VR. If you wanna make yourself stronger on a left corner just move your gun to the left side of your head, you can still hold with right hands. Dual eye dominance could be helpful though for those peeks.

I have to say, playing in a larger space is kind of overpowered, because you can move irl and in-game without risk of damaging yourself or your property, while other players don't have space to play in. So it's kind of an unfair advantage. Because of that you can cover faster and peek faster. Personally when I have a deagle and I can headshot you, but you can peak and spray me down faster than I can aim and shoot one shot. I mean come on. The dps and fire rate balance of the assault rifles are op if you know how to aim which is fine, but there should just be a maximum movement speed in the game to even the playing field between the rich players and the poor.
@chillst3p
@chillst3p 3 жыл бұрын
I agree on max move speed, have suggested it to the devs many times.
@chillst3p

All of the peaking techniques in this video are somewhat normal in many games but amazingly considered to be cheating in OnwardVR. Jiggle peaking especially, unlike other games where it is considered a technique used by top players - its tabooed by losing players as being an "exploit"
@chillst3p
@chillst3p Жыл бұрын
The movement in pavlov was patched to be a lot slower so a lot of this isnt as effective anymore. Onward is funny though, the movement is so fast in that game for it being a "milsim"

No mainly ping gives more disadvantages than advantages, but it can help you kill much better players if you peek into them.
@Godfather1010
@Godfather1010 3 жыл бұрын
Both players see each other at the same time ig which is great. The authority is not the server it is the person being shot! your client gets the Hitmarker, server gets the HP drop info then the person you shot must be informed of their HP reduction otherwise the opponent is alive shooting, once this is received causing death then the bullets stop coming from their client through the server and to you :) so Peekers advantage goes to the Low ping player in Pavlov due to game mechanics and Server proximity as it should imo, Reprojection, Dysync & Bandwidth throttling and loss of packets all in check, some exceptions in game mechanics apply with the server as authority can cause bullets etc to be dis-regarded however. Its super funny with 30 guys in Spectator mode watching one man on Oilrig alive with the bomb die to a seconds late headshot from a player that has been dead for seconds but sent a late packet before dying that the server accepts, Bring on the Lan battles over the next decade, Celty has already 0 or 1ms ping on a server! he holds the record as far as I'm aware for lowest ping
@chillst3p
@chillst3p 3 жыл бұрын
"Both players see each other at the same time ig which is great" this isn't true nor is it even physically possible outside of LAN, but perhaps you misworded it? Otherwise this is all true if a bit hard to understand. The low ping player peeking advantage still requires the other player to be ping, but yes peekers advantage is basically a factor of the total ping of both players added up, and the lower player, being closer to the server, will register the kill first thus being more likely to win the trade in a 1v1 scenario, meaning, both players still die, but the low ping player got the kill "first" so if they are the last two people alive, his team will win the round.
@Godfather1010
@Godfather1010 3 жыл бұрын
@@chillst3p Ig is a set time shown on the scoreboard, dual recordings of years of Pavlov Virtual Reality Master League battles available online show no matter the ping both players see each other at exactly the same time in game. While researching it pays to use Dave's servers to sync the round start for the lossless quality recordings, above caveats apply regarding Reprojection etc otherwise everyone sees Reprojection not what happens!
@chillst3p
@chillst3p 3 жыл бұрын
@@Godfather1010 well obviously in "game time" they will be synced, a player with higher ping is likely that far behind a low ping player in game time/simulation. IRL they will NOT see each other at the exact same time. That would require seeing into the future.
