@@ashmitsrivastava4475 they're not scamming anyone. It's just the nature of the pawn business. Pawn shops have to buy merchandise at or below wholesale. It's how they make money. It's really these sellers' fault for taking these kind of items anywhere near a pawn shop. Seriously, why would anyone take a historical treasure like Einstein's math to a pawn shop? You take that to an auction house like Sotheby's or a museum or even eBay. A pawn shop? Gimme a break!

I have a PhD in theoretical physics, so I feel like I should let the viewers know that unfortunately, that uppercase lambda that Rick pointed out is not the cosmological constant. The cosmological constant is a constant, or scalar. The lambda on the paper has indices, which immediately tells us that it is a tensor. Most likely, it is a Lorentz transformation and the comma indicates that a derivative is taken with respect to alpha. The cosmological constant is in fact denoted by the same Greek uppercase lambda; however, it would not have any indices.

If you have something they want, you come back a different time for recording and whatnot. I assume that is so they have time to do some research and write the scripts for the Pawn Stars crew. *Einstein's written math (which IMO is way cooler than his signature because he was known for science/math) "To actually have his math is one of the rarest things you can find". *"Einstein's physics stuff changed the world". *Expert agrees it's authentic. *Expert says these things can be valued upwards of $50k. Says he has some concerns, but then looks it over, appraises it, and doesn't have any. *Similar items valued anywhere between $15k-$18k. *"There's not really a lot of this stuff out there, Rick, it's pretty rare". *Expert says Einstein is such a well known iconic figure who is still recognized to this day, and that helps keep it's value up. *Rick calls himself a nerd and has an interest in physics and seems to be knowledgeable in the field. Rick - :shaking his head disgustingly: "I'll give you $3k for it". What a RIP OFF. Good for you keeping it, dude.

If you watched the video... after the appraisal, the expert said that the piece was worth roughly $5,000... (or possibly more depending on what the equation represents.) That’s a huge difference on the guy asking $18,000 originally, then asking for $14,000 after hearing the $5,000 appraisal. Rick *-might be-* / *IS* definitely cheap, but his discretion on this “gamble” was definitely for the best...

Julia Googlia probably because it’s a tiny slip of paper that’s faded. The one he’s comparing the handwriting to is a big A4 sheet that’s in great condition and has tons of different equations. That one is probably worth the $50k+ but not a tiny faded slip of paper.
