If you are ever in Pittsburgh, I highly recommend visiting the Warhol Museum, which is the largest art museum dedicated to one artist (Warhol was born in Pittsburgh). Just a fabulous museum and there are a number of his shoe and cherub works on display. Warhol was a successful commercial artist prior to becoming an international sensation and his shoe artwork reflects his professional background.

You are correct. Seller's fees usually around that. Rick is probably adding both the buyer and seller's fees together which often adds to around 50 percent but that makes no sense in this situation.

Christie’s auctions take 35% on items appraised for over three quarters or a million dollars, more if they have to authenticate it themselves. Lower “high-end” auction houses (Vegas especially) are way worse.

I love how the art expert shoots down al of Ricks negativity concerning the pieces... not only in this clip but almost all the time they call that guy in he’s “for the buyer”... I like him a lot and I agree by just looking at them you can tell the water damage is on the outer part of the picture... you could easily just cut that part off if you really wanted to. Rick just tried to leverage his buying power by saying they’re in rough shape when really they’re not. It’s Andy Warhol for Gods sake!

Why do these sellers never contact museums or notable collectors first? I’m sure the Warhol Museum in Pitt would have loved these prints and definitely would have bought them for over $27k.

Couple of reasons, 1. They dont exactly have a rolodex for rich people who want to buy fine art. 2. You think museums dont know how to haggle? 3. Its a much more straightforward transaction: give me your art and I will give you cash on the same day.

Also, museums do not own everything on display, and even what they own they didn't buy, they get it from donations.

highly recommend going to the warhol museum. i visited pittsburgh a number of years ago and it was the absolute highlight of my trip. there is a section of the museum with a number of watercolors on display with subjects such as cats, cherubs and shoes. museums don't pay top dollar, especially today with the major artists going for ridiculous amounts of money. if this gentleman was benevolent, he could have donated them to the museum, which is how many museums build their collections. i don't blame him for selling them though.

I worked at The Warhol Museum. These pieces aren’t prints. They are ink blot pieces that were hand done by Warhol. They were made during the time period when Warhol was a commercial artist in NYC…pre Pop Art. They are worth MUCH MORE than what these jokers paid the seller. He should have gone to a legitimate art gallery in NYC.

the moment he saw the expert tell the seller about how much he could get for them at the auction, Rick immediately had to downplay the auction and say the fee's can go up to 50%, because he knows most times sellers are going to take the auction route after hearing how much they can actually get for them.

I have seen a few of Andy Warhol's originals on display in Dallas a few years ago and they are expensive. One of his paintings had a retail of 2 million. I was flabbergasted.

They MUST have the specialist review artwork PRIOR to taping because there is NO WAY any REAL Art specialist would come in look at artwork for 2 minutes and confirm if it is real or fake and then give a value. They would BE the laughingstock of that industry!!

Jeez, 50% commission? Glad auctions here in the UK are capped at 37.5% (from the last time I remember) but never had to pay more than 28%. The higher commissions are London, Manchester etc.

PuNKD Steven most English auctions u don’t pay fees anymore it’s called a buyers premium the buyer pays the commission on top I think most big auction houses do this now so rick is talking bullshit have the time there is no commission just some fees that are 5% max
