@@hern7209 Because the deal was $1500, but most of that was a barter for the framing, only leaving $300 in cash. They didn't get $1500 cash plus free framing. (Although I guess now with only 3 posters to frame, the value was $900 in swap and $600 cash). So the pawn shop hasn't broken even yet, they have $600 in cash and the remaining framed posters. They don't start breaking even until the other posters are sold.

My uncle used to be a photographer and also had a framing shop. I used to work there in the summers. There isn't a ton of overhead in it. The materials are not that cheap and it can be time consuming sometimes. You also need some specialized tools. It is kind of similar to having custom windows made or replacing one and that isn't cheap either.
@mikedawolf95
@mikedawolf95 3 жыл бұрын
It’s mostly labor because I’m guessing they have to measure the frame and make it specific size and space between the glass and picture
@biteme263
@biteme263 3 жыл бұрын
@@mikedawolf95 Nope, its materials and tools. Good glass is expensive as is ornate wood and metal. And you need to have a lot of it in stock. The spacing is normally determined by the matting and frame stock unless you are making some kind of shadow box or something. And even then you are most likely using pre formed stock, its just more thick is all. Over all size is normally pretty standard but it isn't hard to make custom sizes since you are cutting each piece anyway. It just cost more if you want it larger than it needs to be. More glass, more wood, more matting. In most cases there is a standard price based on size. Then it gets adjusted depending on what type of frame stock you want and glass. There are different kinds of glass as well.
@clarky23
@clarky23 3 жыл бұрын
framing is not cheap. I bought a Disney Animal Kingdom poster back in 2000 and has it professionally framed. Poster cost $20 and framing was $300. When I picked up the framed poster, a guy in the shop offered me $650 for it. I said no, because is was a wedding gift to my wife. When we sold the house in 2018 and moved we put the poster on commission at the framer and got $1600 for it. All for a frame and a $20 poster. Framing changes everything in home decor.

I absolutely believe pawn shops would've been the number one type of consumer credit. It's literally the oldest form of borrowing: collateralized debt. I need money to expand an operation, pay a bill, etc. And you need some surety that I'll actually pay back the loan...I can pawn you a valuable item as collateral and when I pay back the loan, I get the item back. That's credit.

Why would the framing guy want to buy a pawn shop poster? lol
@pizzaman6926
@pizzaman6926 4 жыл бұрын
@markmac well there's been a enough times where it's obvious he doesn't know and even states that he doesn't. This part I buy to an extent because we know Rick is a "cultured" guy on a lot of things. What I don't buy is stuff that's clearly worth in the millions that get sold for petty thousands and have it be passed off as an appropriate price and deal. They had the literal contract that The Beatles signed to start their entire career and it didn't even get a million. I think I've only seen stuff go up to like 20-40 thousand ever and those were on select few items. I'm starting to think their only allowed to give out a certain amount to a person even if it's worth leagues above that price. And a lot of these sellers don't help either just taking any price they offer because oH wOw i'M oN pAwN sTaRs!?! Some of these people I seriously question why they didn't go straight for a museum is being on Pawn Stars that valuable to these people that it's more valuable to them than getting a higher fortune?

In the end he was left with 3 free rare items about a pawn shop already professionally framed for free. If you'd be angry about that then you're a terrible business owner.

If I were the framer guy, I would’ve said that just because someone regrets selling something to your pawnshop doesn’t mean they can go back and just ask for it back again, you can’t be a hypocrite

I worked in pawnshops around London for years in the early 90s- We had an expert that knew the retail price of almost anything - first name ‘Argos’ surname ‘Catalogue’ he had a big brother called ‘Littlewoods’ too.
