Idk, I can see both sides. It's not like these people are pawning their items, they are selling them and getting immediate cash for it. It might not be retail price, but if the item isn't worth a lot, you still need to find the time to actively sell the item, answer questions, get it done up looking nice, finding a buyer, and doing how many other things? It can be hard for individuals with no knowledge to do these things. Some people just want cash out the door. That said.... The one with the Wright brothers was really dumb. That was super collectible stuff and he should have done the work because no matter the effort he puts in, he'd be getting like 10k more and that's just opportunity cost.

I love how no one realizes the pawn shop is just a "middle-man", looking to make money from you. Take it directly to a collector and keep all the $$$ for yourself.
@kaldo_kaldo
@kaldo_kaldo 2 жыл бұрын
Everyone realizes that. That is literally the entire point of pawn shops. In all of history pawning was the #1 form of loaning money until the mid 1900s when banks took the lead. What Rick says in so many of these episodes is true. He has to make money. He's even told people before that they could make more auctioning it. But considering that there's no point in him buying a $100 item for $100 because he won't make any money, he's not going to offer that. The business would be completely inviable, it's not just breaking even but losing money because you have to pay for the space, the bills, licenses, employee salaries, insurance, and sometimes they're getting fake items and getting items stolen. People bring things to a pawn shop because a pawn shop is very likely to buy the item. Most of these people have already tried to sell their items and failed. Selling to a pawn shop is perhaps the worst value you can get for an item. People know that, so there's a reason they are there. The reason is they couldn't find a buyer for the price they wanted. If they took the time to find a collector who wanted it, yes they could get more, but they want the money now or dont' want to put up with the hassle.
@AnyoneCanSee
@AnyoneCanSee 2 жыл бұрын
Everyone understands this. A Pawn Shop gives you money there and then but you often get 50% of the value. Have you ever tried to sell a period military jacket? Do you honestly think you could find the collector online and make a better deal? There are no website listing collectors. Most people wait for auction houses that have military auctions maybe once or twice a year. Still, you are then relying on two people wanting the item and bidding against each other or it could go for less than the pawnshop. Just looking at eBay you can see how things can go way undervalue if they don't leave a reserve. Getting the values the experts give are not easy and most people are too busy to do the work even if they can figure out how.
@meditate1207
