The operating margin problem is significant.

The declining margins over time point to PayPal not having a particularly strong competitive moat. That makes it unsuitable for a long-term investment in my eyes. I would require a very cheap entry point to invest in it.

@@durannesamuel2620 Well this is broadly trading at 23x EV/ EBITDA at the moment. META, which is facing headwinds and a general loss of market trust in its business is at c.8.5x. I would want to see a valuation closer to that for Paypal to start considering it - but even then it’s TBC based on how the business looks if and when it reaches that valuation. If the long-term trajectory of the business significantly deteriorates for the market to assign it this multiple, I would need to see it even cheaper than that.

To put my view of the current valuation another way: if you think of PayPal’s current EV/EBITDA multiple as broadly speaking a sort of cash flow yield, that’s around 4.3% per year. Compared to 10y t-bills buyable at 2.7%-3%; that’s not anywhere near enough of a risk premium for me.

Totally agree, P/FCF is too high now for a no YoY fcf growth and in addition they need to raise debt to repurchase 15b of stocks...not for me for now considering the competition in this sector too

Paypal dropped by more than half from 200 due to astronomically high valuations and weak moat. Caution is needed here and it should not form high % of one's position.

i own some paypal, but i paid for it more than it´s current worth, so I´m just waiting for it to go up to get some profit. I believe they have good potential in the long run, but probably might have some tough times up ahead for a few years.

Couldn’t disagree more. This company will go out of business. eBay iced them out and now they’re shutting down free friends and family payments for everyone with a business account.
