While both start in consecutive years, Paytm was first the market favourite in India. That is until Google pay came in.
Google pay started catching pace with its most important moat of direct bank transfer of money and not in any wallet. This was preferable to customers.
In addition to this, customers do not have to go through the hassle of KYC in Google pay unlike Paytm where till date, KYC is done physically in some regions.
Being involved in controversies too has put Paytm in the backseat which is proved by the volume of *transactions in the last financial year.
