In Tamilnadu we can see one thing very clearly that how the DK people are portraying Brahmins in the minds of the people. Barathiyaar died much before he matured in his thoughts, he was an emotional person ,so he had spewed words at times. I can see people taking sides ideologically in the comments below instead of trying to understand the person barathi is. He was best understood only by barathidasan who openly defied and denied barathis views about agathiyar and wrote at length about it , But eulogised barathi's heart. The truth is barathi had sympathetic views related to sanskrit and aryan thoughts including vedas and bagavath geetha and could see through their sinister design which barathidasan was able to, his greatness is and was only because of his knowledge in tamil a language which which can shape up a person's thinking. Thats why vallalaar thanked god for making him to be born in this language -ref: vallalaars collected writings. But barathiyaar was vehemently opposed to brahminism practised in his time. So he was harangued hated by his own kins.

It’s important for younger generations to know the differences between EVR and Mahakavi Bharathiyar. Bharathiyar was born into an orthodox Brahmin family. He denounced his own caste and voiced out against Brahministic oppression. Because of this he faced so many hardships from his own community and kins. He brought many Dalit children to his agragaaram and did punniyaajalam to make him a Brahmin to preach to Brahmins that everyone is equal. He went through so many turmoils by choice but if he wanted to he could’ve lived a privileged life like any other Brahmin in those times. EVR on the other hand propagated Brahmin hatred for his own political agenda and caused a divide in the society. EVR was going to prostitutes when Bharathiyar was shaping the new era of Tamil literature. Bharathiyar stood for women’s education and empowerment. EVR stood for women smoking and drinking. No one can express in words about the contribution of Bharathiyar to modern Tamil literature. Bharathiyar knew 18 languages and said Tamil was the sweetest of them all. EVR on the other hand said Tamil is a waste language that no one should learn. Tamil letters must become obsolete and we should all learn English instead. Bharathiyar went to prison and died in penury fighting for freedom of our nation when he could have lived a long, lavish life in a duke’s court. EVR self-proclaimed with so much pride that he was a traitor of our freedom movement. Bharathiyar did not live to see Independence Day, did not breath the air of independence that he worked so hard to achieve. But he wrote an impassioned song for us to sing when we achieve independence. EVR called our Independence Day a “dark day” and we are better off being slaves to the Britishers. But since many of us have fallen for this periyar propaganda and we don’t have any will to research or any self respect, we hail EVR as father of this land and forget Bharathiyar who has done insurmountable amount of sacrifice for this nation’s freedom, Tamil literature, women empowerment and caste abolishment. And we let morons like this to comment on Mahakavi. We must put our heads down in shame. Just shameful.
