Growing up west of Chicago I remember the Peterson well. Different patterns on every lane and none of them were "normal" and sometimes not even a pattern as much as seemingly random puddles of oil, arrows blocked out on some lanes, no warm-ups, 2 ball limit, variable weight pins in a rack, sometimes pins were off spot by quite a bit, etc. It was fun, but so dang frustrating.

What "the kids" don't realize today is that these were the conditions some of us actually had to bowl on in the juniors. Some houses in the NYC area were notorious for this: Morris Hills in Parsippany, NJ, Eagle Rock Lanes in West Orange, NJ, Bayside Lanes in Bayside, NY, and 10-pin-on-the-mall in Paramus, NJ. This was back in the mid- to late-1970s so most of these places are long gone. You had to develop a "fudge" release to compete in these houses.

So I made a comment yesterday, but a lot has changed in 24 hrs lol...I'm copy/pasting a reply I just made tonight regarding 2 handed bowling. So I've just recently realized that 2 handed bowling is a thing. And I , like others, immediately jumped into the RAWR RAWR !! That's not bowling ...crowd. Fast forward to 5 days later lol, and I've changed my mind, and it's from one simple line that Belmo said, "And I fell in love with bowling doing it the only way I could at that age". And I played that back and listened to it again, and it makes perfect sense. Small kids can play tball and learn baseball and move on to the Majors, small kids can play mini golf or play with smaller clubs and move on the PGA, but small kids can't pick up a damn 10 or even 8lb ball and learn any fundamentals at all doing it the conventional way. So what do we tell our children, sorry son/daughter you'll just have to wait until you're taller, stronger, and heavier ? Anyone challenging this is simply jealous. I taught myself how to bowl when I was around 12 I guess, joined a league for less than a year. Shot a 267 when I was 16 and a 721 series, but couldn't keep up with the demand because my right arm would get so tired. Had I been able to do it with this 2handed method, I know for a fact I would have stayed with it. Ok, i'll get off of the soap box now.

I'm bowling the Statue of Liberty pattern in league next week. Any advice?
@SirJoelsuf111 ай бұрын
I averaged 205 on Statue of Liberty at a sweeper a few months ago. It's long but scorable. Lots of hold but you can also carve SOME of the outside. Keep the breakpoint at 8-10 and don't be afraid to loft the cap if you have a lot of RPMs. It'll likely move in on you, but not so far in to where you're aiming at the 15 board. It'll transition to where you'll likely need to feed it to 12. If there aren't any thane trolls on your pair, you'll have room. 8 to 14 will yield a pocket hit. If there ARE thane trolls on your pair, you might need to play the frozen rope (up 15). I'm a speed dominant bowler with next to no RPMs (200 or so if I wheel on it) so I pretty much pitched it up 10 for all six games during my sweeper. Was at 15 at the arrows 10 at the breakpoint for like the last two. Was in my Prism Hybrid the entire day. 2x PBA champion Cristian Azcona was a few pairs left of me, he was already lofting the cap by the third game.
@joshgarcia660211 ай бұрын
@j0elsuf thank you! From a video I watched that looks exactly what they were doing. I'll keep all this in mind when I bowl league next week.
