Color me shocked (and thankful)! I came here after trying to do a simple RAM upgrade by adding a new 16GB RAM stick to my Lenovo tower PC to bring it up to 32 GB. I have done this dozens of times on other PCs for myself and others with no issues. This time, however, the new memory card caused total boot failure with beeping and flashing error lights. Could not even get into BIOS. I reseated the new RAM module with the same result. I swapped the old and new RAM in the original slot and the new RAM worked perfectly. I swapped slots with the old and new RAM with both plugged and hard fail again. At this point, I started searching for help and found this video. It was concise and well done but I thought it was redundant to what I had already done. Then I read the comments and person after person reported that the compressed air fixed the problem. Being the "wise, old" person that I am, I discarded this info since this PC is very clean and I have NEVER had dust cause a RAM slot failure in almost 40 years of PC build and repair work. BUT, I am not totally STUPID and I am capable of learning so I thought maybe it's worth a try. I actually did not have a compressed air can but used a camera lens air bulb to puff some air into the slot. To my amazement, this simple procedure did fix the issue. There must have been the tiniest spec of dust in that 2nd slot and it caused the error even after multiple plugging and replugging. Wow! Thanks for taking the time to post this video and teach an old dog a new trick.

Here’s something that can change your way of life or thinking. This is the most important thing you will hear/read today. If you’ve told one lie, stolen anything, or lusted (which is adultery of the heart), you’ll be found guilty on Judgment Day and end up in Hell. But there’s good news: Though we broke God’s Law, Jesus, the prophesied Messiah, perfectly kept the Law, fulfilling all righteousness. He paid the fine for sinners ( that we could never pay ) by suffering and dying on the cross-absorbing the wrath of God that we deserve. “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” Then Jesus rose from the dead and was seen by hundreds of eyewitnesses. I had the same issue when I went from 16 to 32gb of ram. Take your CMOS battery out and hold down the power button to your PC for about a minute or so. That, or bridge the two pins with something metal like a screwdriver. With all sticks of RAM installed, put the CMOS battery back in, and start it. This fixed my issue. OR Try to disable the XMP in bios using the old sticks, then install the new Sticks, then re-enable XMP.

Try looking into the settings for the RAM in the BIOS, if you can get to it. If not, try resetting the CMOS (you take the coin battery out of the board temporarily and then add it back, I don't have a tutorial on this yet but you can look it up)

i’m having this exact same problem. what settings in BIOS would i need to check and what should it say?
@Torqcx
@Torqcx Жыл бұрын
@@AyCartii If after a RAM installation, your computer started beeping/looping/failing to boot, that means something's wrong, either at least one of the modules and/or slots are bad, typically. In the BIOS, though, underneath wherever the RAM settings are, you can check the timings and speeds it is set to. Make sure they're the same as your RAM's manufacturer's specifications. If they're different, this can lead to boot failures.
@IchKuchen

@@Torqcx Well thank you for your quick response, the problem is that I don't get that far. It just turns of and starts again, can't get into the boot menu. I assume the motherboard is the problem but it worked just fine before I tried just one stick in slot 1, now any combination isn't working
@Torqcx
@Torqcx Жыл бұрын
@@IchKuchen Try clearing the CMOS, this is done on the physical board itself which manually resets the BIOS's settings and preferences back to default. After doing so, try again with just one module of RAM at a time. It sounds like the timings and/or speeds may have changed when the new module(s) were installed, but one of them perhaps isn't playing nice with the others.

Try the modules one-at-a-time in each individual slot; if, in no matter what configuration any of them are in, the PC still fails to boot, that means either the motherboard is not compatible with those modules or they both happen to be faulty (though the latter is unlikely).

Very likely it's an issue with either the RAM modules or the slots they're in. If you've already blew out the slots for dust, reseated the modules, and reset the CMOS on the motherboard, there unfortunately isn't much left to do except troubleshoot whether it's the modules' or slots' fault. If any of the modules went bad, replacing them should solve the problem. If it's any of the slots, the motherboard would need to be replaced if you were otherwise unable to increase your RAM capacity with the one you currently have.

Interesting. I solved such an issue simply by booting to BIOS, after my PC wouldn't boot up with my old RAM stick either and I had reinstalled the newly bought pair of 16 GB sticks. I still don't know WHY that worked, or why aren't any of the tutorials covering that trick. Sure, I hadn't secured the new sticks properly the first time, but after I had, it still wouldn't work before forcing it to BIOS. So much for the practicality of PC building 🙄. Now I'm afraid of further upgrades that I've had in mind.

My pc used to work without issue, but since I returned from a trip, it began randomly experiencing boot failures (as in I could not even get into BIOS), but it would usually randomly work again after I do some random sh1t to it and restart a few times. But now it really can't boot no matter what. During my trip, the humidity levels back home was way high, to the point that the walls are wet. I think that may have caused some problems??? Also I bought a possibly sketchy new monitor with a possibly sketchy displayport cable. I heard that a faulty pin 20 can cause boot issues, but I still can't boot even after switching to hdmi so that can't be it right? The debug led on the motherboard indicates that it's the dram that's the problem, but idk. My motherboard is asrock b760m rs/ds wifi, ram is pny xlr8, gpu is rx6600.

You can also try resetting the CMOS, look up how to do that but basically you just take out the coin battery for a few seconds and put it back in. Often times this can fix BIOS/motherboard issues.

Quick question, i installed two RAM sticks, and now my main SSD/local disk has lost some free space it was 115gb free now it's 90gb free i suspect it's the new Ram(s) that are taking the Vram space? Can we allocate them into my hardisk, the other local disks instead of the main memory? Hopefully i am clear? Thank you.

Start by removing the RAM and cleaning the slots. If, after re-insertion, your system still doesn't boot up, clear the CMOS (I currently don't have a video on the topic but there are plenty you can watch here on KZfaq on how to do that), and try booting up again. If none of that solves the problem, troubleshoot each slot and each module, one-at-a-time, to determine whether any of the slots or modules went bad.

If after resetting the CMOS you still cannot get any of the RAM to work in those slots, the board may be defective. If you built everything new, you should be able to get it replaced.

If the sticks (modules) that don't work are the exact correct specifications your motherboard specifies it can handle, and they work in other systems, try resetting the system's CMOS and try again with the modules. If you still don't get any luck, those modules may just not like that board.

Without more information, I cannot determine whether the issues you've been having are RAM-related or not. If you've already troubleshot the RAM and are still having the same issues, you will have to start testing out the other components and/or software. Good luck!

You would have to troubleshoot each individual slot and each individual module if you'd want to completely rule out what is causing the system to fail to boot. Unfortunately there isn't really another way to do this.

@@libanarab5883 As long as your system can successfully boot with all the RAM, it shouldn't be overworking it; the fact that the fans sound louder now is a new one to me, though. Is it your heatsink fan(s) that sped up or your case fans? All-in-all though I honestly wouldn't sweat it, the system may just be attempting to compensate for the extra power it is now supplying to the additional hardware installed.

If you already tried cleaning the slots out, and tested each RAM module you have in each slot individually and you still are not having any luck, the slots may be bad and the board would have to be replaced if you'd want to make use of them.

@Torqcx
@Torqcx Жыл бұрын
It's possible the teeth of the RAM card became damaged, but I'd first start but blowing out the RAM slots in the motherboard. It's likely dust/debris got in there and is disrupting the contact between it and the module
@cheesegrater..

@@Torqcx I did not expect that fast of a reply. Wow thanks. But after some troubleshooting it’s most likely the actual stick of ram itself as I moved a different stick into that slot and removed the one that I was having problems with and it boots up straight away so I either damaged it somehow or it was already a bit damaged when I got my pc. Edit: after looking at the stick of ram I saw a scratch on it. Is it possible that the scratch is the problem or is something different. Either way imma buy a new stick of ram but thanks for the advice. Edit 2: some how I have managed to get all ram sticks working again somehow. I guess they weren’t full inserted but they couldn’t go any further without damage. The last time I tried it all I did was give a little nudge/wiggle towards 1 direction and they all work now…. Tbh I have no idea what has happened and how I’ve fixed it but I thank you for your assistance.
