Can we use KiCad instead of Sprint-Layout? I THINK we can export DXF from there and upload it in Carbide 3D copper, or is this step useless now with Cut2D?

This requires high-precision assembly of the machine or xy limit switch or willow pin fixation. The engraving machine probably needs to test repeated positioning.They add a spring to the z-axis to avoid repeated positioning of the z-axis. Generally, the machine does not tighten the milling cutter so that the z-axis returns to zero and then tightens it to achieve positioning.

The thing should also be able to cut a solder paste mask. Apply solder paste > place components > melt solder with hot air iron > apply additional solder where needed.

the laser could also heat the solder joints very accurately once the components are in position. this is basically a laser engraver

Потому видео и называется 'прототипирование', а не серийное производство. При прототипировании и НИОКР никто не смотрит на цену прототипа.

This may be useful in a mild prototyping environment or in an educational environment. Otherwise, the PCB companies have made them so cheap that I don't see why one would do this. I have been interested in the machine, however, I now feel different.

@@WZombie47 это видео презентация фрезера, тут и не такое покажут. Зачем прототипу маска? Лишнее действие. За одну установку фрезернул и просверлил, дальше в химию и готово. Тут односторонний текстолит, нет переходных отверстий.

With the help of special expensive equipment, every housewife can do this. Try making a printed circuit board using only an iron and an A4 laser printer. Then I will say that you are very cool

I like it getto style: - get a free/really cheap old laser printer - get a glass container (e.g. for cooking) - get the required chemicals For the actual design you can even use MS Paint. LOL The stuff in this video is too fancy and expensive.

Used to do that way when i was a kid, with iron and glossy paper but when you grow up and have some extra money on the side you can upgrade by eliminating difficult procedures.

Absolutely the worst way to make a PCB. You are better off sending your Gerber files to s PCB house. You will get a quality PCB with plated thru holes, solder mask, printing, and everything exactly as rendered in the Gerber files. I have seen boards created with 2D routers. They are an abomination.

it's both the quickest and the cheapest way to do it. Ordering PCBs from china is like 40x more expensive and takes 200x as long. Of course the quality of a professionally made PCB will be better. But if you buy a custom PCB you will need to wait days (hundreds of dollars) or weeks (10s of dollars). You can mill a PCB in under an hour if it's small/simple, and the board costs quarters.

@@jacobkuca7711 I have made single and double sided PCBs with positive photo resist, a UV lamp and an etch tank. The quality is much better than what is produced with a 2D router. The artwork is compatible with what a PCB board house will use, whereas 2D routed boards are not. A co-worker of mine, at a NASA research lab, always had his PCBs made by a consultant who used a 2D router. They were terrible. He produced boards that were far removed from any layout a competent EE would create. I believe many of the problems we had were due to the use of these PCBs. However I did get satisfaction one Friday when I was asked to modify one of these poorly designed PCBs. I gleefully sharpened my gravers and carved away at the PCB, added jumpers, etc. The "EE" and his cohorts were all off that Friday ( government workers, yuk! ) so I was the only one who could do this and keep the work progressing. But on Monday he was back and very upset to see his PCB all carved up.. He stormed out and we didn't see him for another 3 weeks. In the end, the data our lab was collecting was not up to standards so the "EE" and his friends were eventually let go.

@@ThatsPety I'm sure many people can do better work producing a 2-D milled PCB than what I saw. BTW, they were not friends of mine. Even with the best work there still remains the problem that your 2-D milled PCB is a unique article whose design is constrained by the limitations of the tool. That PCB design does not use Gerber files and so is in no way connected to any industry approved design path for PCBs. The 2-D milled PCB design just gets thrown away and the PCB designer has to start over again using Altium, ORCAD, Eagle, or some other tool that generates Gerber files a PCB board house will accept. I can probably make a protype PCB faster than anyone using a 2-D mill just using jeweler's gravers. However I prefer to use protoboards drilled with holes every .1" and with a ground plane on both sides. Even that is faster and better than a 2-D milled PCB. But I only do that for hobby projects. For customers I always produce the best quality finished PCB, using a quickturn board house. Time is money and I have seen how much time is wasted with those silly routers. They are a total abomination.
