Great job! Shredders pay attention! This is how u shred with 1000% feel! I've always marvelled at Ed's joker-ish way of playing solos. I can't explain it. He's so, "...and I'll just do this thing here, and that thing there...and slide into this thingermabobber ....while I do the whatchamacallit." NOBODY, AND I MEAN NOBODY, COULD TOUCH HIS WHIMSICAL PHRASING!!! RIP

This way of playing came right out of the Jeff Beck and Kilgore Play book.

By far the best and easiest breakdown of that solo. One thing I know about EVH’s solos is that, despite the crazy outside notes and time changes where he accelerates the timing of a phrase mid measure and his almost jazz approach to blues (sometimes playing more like a Bebop horn player (without any conscious decision to do that from what I can tell), he always plays in a way that is efficient and makes the most sense from a position perspective unless it doesn’t create the sound in his head in which case he may jump positions when the same note is conveniently located in close proximity but on a string that doesn’t allow for open strings or the brightest tone or richest pinch harmonic. So although he plays pentatonics In a unorthodox manner at times during every solo, he never makes things hard on himself for the sake of mAking it harder to play. Everything he does despite it being totally unique, is also logical once you are experienced enough playing his tunes. The nice thing and it’s intended as a huge compliment is that not only was every note accurate, but more importantly, every phrase was accurate whether you played to tempo or you slowed down. Most guys who attempt to teach Eddie’s solos, sound fairly accurate when they blaze through with the right tone, but then when the slow the phrase down it should also be timed correctly in terms of the space between notes and intervals. additionally, each notes should sound right fast or slow. You make it sound exactly right at any tempo. And you organize the sections logically. Wonderful lesson and the best example of someone who really gets what he does and why. Excellent

Thank you for coming up with this amazing tutorial! I've always wanted to learn this solo and I had a hard time figuring it out from the tabs. Your section-by-section breakdown was brilliant! It really helped me learn the solo and all of its EVH nuances. I'm still not up to speed but I know in time, I will. Again, thank you for making this dream a reality. More power to you and may your channel be more successful in the years ahead!!!

So possibly by midyear 2022 or possibly 2023, I can start on this....... lol. Thanks though, these lessons are really appreciated no matter how long it takes me to master them.

@@carlodestefano6628 Persistence and patience. Gains may be slow depending on how much time you have. I use a program called Transcribe to break the difficult parts into just a few bars i can slow down and practice (using an mp3 of the actual song). I'll work on just those to get them up to speed, then link them together. A lot if it is how much time you have to practice. It's definitely a, "you get out of it what you put into it" situation. It's tough to devote time though with a full time job, kids, etc. When it seems like you've hit a plateau, keep practicing and you'll break through it eventually.

I need your help on pickups man. What guitar 🎸 pickups do you personally recommended. Instead of EMG, Duncan's those are way too much for my price range. I seen some on eBay called GM. They are personally hand wound by the guy. I need a humbucker that is a cross between a old 1961 P.A.F. and a JB "Jeff Beck" with a little bit of a 1959 model. Output range around a 5. Midrange 7 lows or Bass around 6. I can't afford the Duncan 1978 EVH. But there are guitar pickups that sound very similar. I also need the guitar pick-up to go into reverse parallel wound. Also split the coil into a single coil. What do you recommend? You have a very good sound. I've been playing guitar for 21 years. I had two drum lessons and four years of guitar lessons 2000-2004. I got up to Mel Bay book four on reading music. That's my experience.

Maybe this doesn’t work for what you’re doing, but a little theory with this would go a long way. The key of the song, modal context of any, ect. Learning this is awesome, but if you understand a little as to why he may be doing it, that could really drill in in
@PDXguitarfreak

Yeah I hear you. I occasionally talk about theory in some of these solo lessons, but perhaps not enough. With Van Halen, he was all over the place, so that makes it a bit of extra work on his solos LOL :)
