The Emotions rendition of Peace Be Still, in my opinion, is the best ever! These soulful sisters really sing this song. If you are born again, then you can feel the presence of the Holy Spirit all through this song! Every time I listen to it, tears begin to trickle out of my eyes because I think about the goodness of God and the love of Jesus.

"Peace Be Still" by the Emotions is perhaps my all-time favorite gospel song, and the first song to make me cry being overcome with emotion. It was the only performance at a church during the amazing Wattstax concert at the LA Coliseum back in 1972. This version is from the "Wattstax" film, but the full version of the song is over 9 minutes and is soul stirring inspiring you to realize the power of Mark 4:39. God is Love!

Yes yes… I was 8 years old in 1972 and we had to STAY in the church with this kind of singin. Those Afros and how beautifully the Sisters wore them, juxtaposed with the nanas and the aunties and the uncles, nurses and the “urshers” was the whole thing. Seeing folk get ate up with the Spirit and shout forth! Whatever else we had to survive during the week… if we could just make it across that threshold and lay down our burdens… What a remarkable people we are to have survived- continue to survive all that!

This clip is from WATTSTAX. It is a documentary film of the 1971 concert in Watts (California) several years after the race riots. Its purpose was to highlight the Afro-American community, music, culture, pride, and political awareness. This scene features the Emotion's performance at a local Afro-American Pentecostal storefront church. The first half of the film and some of the other performances (ie Rufus Thomas, Isaac Hayes, etc) are on KZfaq. I highly suggest buying the full CD set & DVD.
