Not sure about that. I don't play Oblivion for such a long time, so far, (since march), and I also got this feeling from the very beginning (after a few days). I think it's more then we can explain in one word.

My best friend passed away from cancer 3 weeks ago. We were friends ever since we were 4. He introduced me to gaming and to oblivion. Oblivion will always be one of my favorite games, simply because of all the stupid things the npc's would do. We never got tired of laughing about that. I'm really going to miss you Kyle, I loved you

I had a best friend who passed away in February this year. We had known each other since we were kids and he had been in my life for over 80% of it. We used to play Oblivion together, and this song is the one that reminds me the most of those times. I remember a time that he was so heartbroken because he got the Gray Fox glitch and couldn't finish and get the mask (no save) and I returned to redo it for him and got him the mask. Bethesda has done something which even things in real life can't do, give me memories that last a lifetime. Long live this great company, and continue to make your artistic and beautifully developed games. Bethesda is a beacon in the darkness of bad games, and every Elder Scrolls until the ending of the series will be in my collection. Edit: I may have been a bit over-zealous commenting on the greatness of Bethesda. :/

Tried playing Oblivion after Skyrim but couldn't really get into it. But from what I've heard from the comments on this video it's kinda like when my friends tell me they can't really get into the old Halo games. It's sad knowing these games are so good, but people (myself included) will never understand. So as a tribute to Oblivion, I modded this song into my Skyrim music. I put it in the morning exploration folder. I was coming out of a dwemer ruin after a hard fought battle with Falmer and Centurions only to be greeted with the light glittering in the snow as the sunrise peeked over the mountains and this song playing in the background. It was perfect.

The music in Oblivion is incredible. You should really try again playing Oblivion, the attributes system is far more in depth and add a lot to your progression rather than just upgrading your health, fatigue and magic and a few odd perks in Skyrim. In oblivion you can make spells to allow you to run faster, jump higher. Some aspects aren't as good but it's worth playing through. I love Skyrim but when you play with attributes you can improve and spell making you really see how little depth there is in Skyrim.
@V1rtualFlod
@V1rtualFlod 7 жыл бұрын
My Skyrim is modded so heavily with combat mods that it has a lot of depth. I have about 200 mods installed, it took me months to get all of them working without crashing. Vanilla Skyrim has very little depth I can agree, but that wasn't necessarily a bad thing since it was accessible and fun for a much wider audience and hence why I played it. But after logging thousands of hours in vanilla Skyrim, I needed something a bit deeper and bought it on PC. The reason I can't really enjoy Oblivion is because it looks like an old game and the graphics aren't that great. It's different with the old games of my childhood, since I have a connection with them that goes beyond the superficial graphical issues. But without that nostalgia to drive me forward, I find older games like Oblivion unplayable. Even with graphic mods, Oblivion still doesn't look good enough sadly. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I wish I played Oblivion when it first came out, but since I didn't, it has issues that I can't look past.

That's the thing though. I've played every Elder Scrolls and you see people saying "Morrowind is the best hurdur!" when in reality, it was just their first game. For me, Oblivion is the best game. It doesn't have the best main story (That's Morrowind), it doesn't have the best combat (that's Skyrim) but it had the living world, incredible music and by far the best side quests that fleshed out the world and made it feel so amazing. That being said, I didn't really miss attributes in Skyrim. It didn't feel like my Elder Scrolls experience was affected at all by the loss of attributes. I did miss the spellcrafting, which without spellcrafting, I think that's why magic was so weak in Skyrim.

I feel your story is a lie. Not just because you claimed to work your way backwards in the series, which is hard for even more to do and I started with Daggerfall, but mainly because you actually said that the combat in Oblivion was somehow worse than Morrowind. Morrowind's combat is terrible and clunky compared to Oblivion and Skyrim. Also, Skyrim's combat is the exact same combat of Oblivion but Kill Moves make the combat feel better along with screenshake effects. Another reason I think you are lying is because you use basically using the list of every flaw Oblivion had that is always cited by Morrowind players who want to puff up Morrowind's stature and deflate the other games. I have never met anyone who legitimately thought or noticed all the "problems" you have listed. Trying to say Oblivion is a generic, cliche'd fantasy game is an erroneous statement every anti-Oblivion player throws out their and only proves that they never really played Oblivion but played the main story (which isn't even bad) and didn't actually PLAY Oblivion. As for the odd conversation interactions between NPCs, that was not nearly as common as you are saying it was and if your immersion is that easily broken, then you should never have been able to immerse yourself in Morrowind. It was a brand new system that did what no other game tried to do before and it worked most of the time flawlessly. Are you seriously suggesting that the system is better off being NPCs standing around, never conversing or going about their daily lives until an adventurer comes around and talks to them. How is that any less immersion breaking?

There are few games like Oblivion that really take a hold of your heart and properly trigger emotions. Warcraft would be another, but holy shit this game will stick with me right through my life. Sure, as a game there are definitely better choices but when it comes to the passion of Fantasy and storytelling, Oblivion is number one. You know what's incredible? The game had like four voice actors yet it still felt like a lively world and then obviously the sound track just transports you into the world completely. Wandering through Cyrodill at 4am on a school night with this song playing, the memories just topple that of pretty much any other game.

If I was given the option to live anywhere such as a game, in a book or just something on top of my head I would choose to live in Tamriel, Idc if there is no technology, people I don't know; I could be living in a world where most thing and creatures exists and most people can't even begin to dream about oh but I wish my wish could true

never really played oblivion, only skyrim, but i still listen to the soundtrack and this is my favorite piece on it. i added it to my exploration playlist, which i listen to whenever i play skyrim, and when this piece comes on i nearly tear up (2:01 is, personally, my favorite moment). i don't know why, but i do feel like i get something like second-hand nostalgia, if that exists, even. it's weird.

This was the first music I heard when I went out the sewers and I saw Cyrodiil for the first time. It was night, and the atmosphere was calm and enchanting, yet somber: I just witnessed the emperor's death, a good man who treated me nicely. It was the first of many losses my PG experienced during the game. Oblivion was great because it created a really melancholic, yet heartwarming story.

Say what you will about Oblivion but this game truly felt real and there were sometimes I just turned the game on and travelled the countryside just to get lost in the scenery. Skyrim was amazing but it missed this essential element at times.

They do and there is. Try listen to some classical choral music or even, more current, Harold Budd and Brian Eno; First Light. Nice stuff for sure. That will set you on track for some relaxing and different music.

Thank you for this answer, Mark Williamson. Many people - even those who like this kind of music - underestimate the power of classical music. It's not all Mozart, especially the romantic period after ca. 1850.

I was fifteen. I sat in a leather beanbag chair, turned on the PS3, and disappeared for hours at a time. My brother, two years younger, would sit in the same room in the corner, on his laptop, occasionally making jokes about the faces or the sudden tone shift of the soundtrack changing from pieces like this to the combat music whenever a mudcrab would harass me. And just as things were getting tense in a dungeon, dinner would be called from the other room, and I'd return to the world to sit and eat with my family. I had many save files, but one will always stand out to me as my definitive run. My character was a simple man, an Imperial who refused to wear armour or use weapons, that refused to sleep in beds, and was stuck on the highest difficulty setting, but insisted on saving the world regardless. His mastery of magic was limited, and relied mostly on his fists to get by. He made most of his money going from town to town selling potions he'd make, mainly from produce he'd stumble across or "borrow" from isolated farms. The PS3 would break and be replaced in 2015, my save file of him lost forever. My brother, shortly after turning 18, would slowly lose himself to alcohol, something he struggles with to this day. He stopped using the games room and would sit alone in his bedroom, drinking and rambling about the same three traumas on a loop. Mom stopped cooking meals because the kitchen was no longer safe with a violent drunk slumped over in the chair. She would slowly lose her mind in her own way, and is now constantly raving about whatever the television tells her to get mad about. I haven't had a coherent conversation with her in at least five years. I was pulled away from gaming entirely, first by education, then by an abusive relationship that nearly broke me. My recovery was helped by games, plenty of long afternoons of Minecraft and herbal tea do wonders for an anxiety disorder, but it wasn't this game. Years passed. A pandemic drove us further apart, right as we were about to make amends. I left home under the cover of darkness after the second time he attacked me, unprovoked, and spent several months couch surfing with whatever I could carry with me out of that house. Eventually I was rehomed, where I've lived ever since. But nobody sits in the corner to comment on whatever I'm doing, or to share what they've been up to. Nobody calls for dinner. Nobody sits at the small wooden table I bought that's been hardly used over the past two years. But I bought it for a reason. Because I once had people I could surround myself with and felt safe around. Because I once had a life that made sense. Because even after all these years, I come back to listen to this particular song, one that always seemed to play whenever that Imperial, whose name I can no longer remember, walked out into the rain, the flat green leaves rustling in the breeze, letting the rain clean his blood soaked hands and his dirty shirt and suspenders after risking life and limb to collect more Welkynd stones so he can conjure more skeletons. Because I was fifteen.
