I can't seem to find the diagnostic tests on the store site to help me determine which level to place my child. Does anyone know where to find this? My dd will be in 3rd grade and we're finishing up FLL level 2 this year, but I'm looking to switch from our current writing program to possibly Writing With Ease.

Thank you for this video, Susan. I hope somebody could answer my question. My daughter is in 5th grade in Classical charter homeschool. Her grammar is OK (Saxon Grammar 6), but her writing is the one you described - tears, procrastination, unfinished assignments (they use "Put That In Writing I"). She already covered writing essays and currently working on paragraphs. But I see more of a regress, than a progress - guess writing is still too confusing for her. She does sometimes writes funny stories with tons of errors! ))) But I let her. She doesn't have any learning disabilities, but rather a reluctant student. I do believe in good academics. I think to teach her at home next year and wonder what should we better choose - to start her off with lever 3 of "Writing With Ease', like you suggested in the video? Could I go through this book faster than 1 year? Is it possible to skip some lessons and cover level 3 and 4 in one year period? Or should we rather go to "Grammar for Well-Trained Mind"; is it LA all-inclusive curriculum? (English is a second language to me, so I am not sure if I could teach her properly.) Please help! Thank you.

So how does First Language Lessons work? Do I use it along with Writing With Ease?

questions: so if I am using FLL for the welled trained mind (the older version with both 1st and 2nd grade) and my child is doing the copywork and enrichment activities and doing drawing picture narrations while watching me write out of oral narration. Do I need to use writing with ease or are we already using the process needed to learn to write. here is some background on us. My son is 7 1/2 and we use OPGTR for reading( we are on lesson 105), FLL (original version, we are on lesson 72 1st grade), STOW V1 Chapter 40 (this is where we do picture narrations and I write what they say), and I do my best to pick good classic literature( I ask them for oral narrations, but keep it light and easy). I have never asked my son to write a sentence on paper except through copywork. he basically hates to write and sometimes even copywork doesn't go well in less it is short. He seems to get overwhelmed or intimidated by thick books and lots of work sheets especially if he has to write and work alone. I have read both the well trained mind and the writing with ease books, but I'm still unsure if I should go with the writing with ease workbooks or the guide book. Honestly I have kind of put it off because I'm not sure if he is ready and thought maybe we could pick it up in a year or two. will that put him behind in his writing? Any advice suggestions would be great! thanks

My daughter will enter 3rd Grade this Fall and is the deer-in-headlights child you described. We are still new to narration and not yet ready to transition to dictation; do we simply start Writing with Ease at the beginning, nevermind the initial level seems to be tailored to 1st graders? Have I misunderstood?

I have a struggling 9 year old writer. He is always procrastinating when it comes to writing. I am not a native English speaker, so our writing time in Homeschool can get very tedious. I feel so incapable of teaching him writing. I have been looking at your writing curriculum and I think it can be a perfect fit for us. There is no prep time and everything is scripted. For my nine year old which level should I use?

I have a 4th grader that I will be homeschooling for the first time this year. He has always had trouble with reading comprehension and coming up with long answers. When he does, his writing seems to be very simple and redundant at times.In the video you said that older students should start with the 3rd book but, in his case, would it be better to start from book 1? He gets very easily frustrated and overwhelmed with writing.

I have a resistant writer(13 yr old son) and have not had success teaching writing with him. In the early years of h.s. he did copywork but we moved away from that because of the complaining about too much writing. I realize now I should have pushed on through but didn't. He is unmedicated ADHD and with maturity he is able to focus longer but his mind is on everything else that he is interested in doing that day. This has been a long road. Anyway, what level should I start with? Or not at all. And helpful suggestions are welcome. Thank you for your time.

Jessica Abel I use Writing With Ease 2 with my 11 year old son. He has ADHD/SPD and writing is a struggle. The curriculum in no way talks down to the child 😊It is solid.

I'm struggling between "Writing with Ease" and "Writing and Rhetoric." Are you familiar with "Writing and Rhetoric"? If so, what are the main differences between the two curriculums? (I see a lot of similarities, but I can't seem to determine which would be a better fit for my 3rd grader who has just been pulled from public school) Any insight would be greatly appreciated :)

ZannaTheGreat I heard a podcast with Susan as a guest. She stated her program is great for the engineering mind. I am trying Writing and Rhetoric and if it doesn't work after a few months we will go back to Sudan's program. She is one of these kids but wants more discussion.

When doing dictation what do you do with a child that has terrible spelling? Should I dictate, pause for him to write, stop and correct his spelling, then proceed with the dictation?
@answerdeskwtmpress8093
@answerdeskwtmpress8093 11 ай бұрын
All errors should be corrected as you go. Dictate a short sentence slowly to him as he writes. If he makes a mistake, stop and have him correct it right then. You should give all necessary help with punctuation and spelling so that the final dictation is completely correct. Don't forget proper spacing!
