I loved Benedict’s story. I thought it would be a basic Cinderella story, but it was so much more, and it brought the best of Violet to the light. I cried a lot reading it, from sadness and from happiness too. Definitely recommend.

I find it super interesting how you didn't understand why Anthony was so sure he was going to die young because for me, I lost my father when I was 17, and I never even questioned it. I had no idea that was a common thing for people who lost a parent young. How fascinating!

Sir Phillip was by far my favorite novel. I just love the sun shine and the grump bear dynamic between the two of them.

When he was Wicked was also a favorite of mine. Just loved Michael so much! Hated that he stayed away for 4 years, my heart went out to both of them. The Duke and I also stuck out in my mind. Hated Simon’s father being so cruel. But loved Simon’s determination to overcome his speech problems. Loved that Daphney was such a strong person. Anthony and Kate was also adorable laugh out loud funny! Loved Bennedict and Shopie’s story too. She was just so sweet and deserved better. Colin was my favorite of the Bridgerton men being so charismatic and funny! I loved that he fell in love with Penelope who secretly loved him all along. Gregorey and Lucy’s story was adorable too. Very heartfelt and action packed. Loved Garreth’s character, and his getting to know Hyacinth. The Bridgerton girl who was outspoken and scared most men away. Also loved Lady Danbury throughout the whole series. She is such strong, funny tell it like it is lady. Eloise and Phillip’s story was also adorable. Eloise was amazing dealing with Phillip and his children! I loved the whole series and it is very hard to say which was my favorite to least favorite. Also would highly recommend the Smithe- Smith series. So very funny and amazing leading men and women. Bridgerton’s do make an appearance in these Great story lines! Love all Julia Quinn’s books!

The first 2 books have REALLY similar story flow - kinda dont like each other then kinda do - get caught compromised - forced into marriage - some psychological issue causes the man to run away - said man comes to realisation he is a twat -runs and saddles his own horse when he finds out his wifey is gone out and goes after her - she is in an accident of some sort I still love the books but was surprised how similar they were

Francesca’s book is my number 1, and Eloise’s book is my number 2 as well! 👏🏻 I agree that The Duke and I is the worst book of the series, and I’ve been telling everyone who wants to read the series now that they’ve watched the show to just make sure they keep going after book 1 because the series gets progressively better from there!

I think what was touching about benedict and sophie's romance was sophie's development and the acceptance of the bridgerton's choice regarding benedict choosing sophie over reputation. I guess it feels kinda "classic" too because of the whoke cinderella trope? And maube because this was my intriduction to the whole series. Havent read hyacinth's or gregory's sotries yet though. I really loved When He Was Wicked too! I really liked The Viscount Who Loved me and I’m excited about season 2 of Bridgerton.

Colin and Penelope's was far my favorite idk why but everything was interesting the moment they begun to fight because it made Colin realize he could only have that type of anger when it concerned Penelope. Eloise story is not what I have expected I do love her that's why I kept reading but why did it feel lacking? Like she deserved a more action packed love story? Specially that her character was so iconic on the netflix adaptation I can imagine some disappointments from other viewers who did not read the books and would see her love story a little bit plain and lacking of some more chemistry.

You're missing one book which is a compilation of second epilogues to each story plus a story on Lady Violet, it is called Bridgerton Happily Ever After and I think it's going to be re-edited soon in the US (I'm not from the US so I'm not 100% sure). The book was published in Spain for the first time in december second epilogue of Francesca's story had me in tears, it was perfect. And then again Lady Violet's story is so heartbreaking but at the same time so full of light and hope... I definitely recommend that book, it is the perfect ending to the series as a whole

I also liked When He Was Wicked the best. Then I'd rank Romancing Mr. Bridgerton and The Viscount Who Loved Me second followed by It's in His Kiss (I love Lady Danbury) and then To Sir Philip with Love. I abandoned An Offer from a Gentleman about where Sophie got kicked out of the house, but that was years ago. I never read the other two, so now I'm trying to read the entire series if they're going to do the show, but I've only gotten through When He Was Wicked. All I have to say is that they better have the mallet of death and the Bridgerton rules of Pall Mall when they get to the Viscount Who Loved Me as that was probably my favorite scene in the book.

Your ranking is the same as mine! I was looking forward to Romancing Mr Bridgerton but I felt like it didn't have that much spark between the two characters. Also I didn't think Colin really had cause to complain. Francesca's book and Eloise's book are my favorites too! Francesca's was so steamy and I love Scotland. I wish the Bridgertons went to their wedding! I love Sir Philip too. He's sensible and just needs help with his kids.

My favourite was Francesca’s book. I loved how sure she was of herself and how she wasn’t scared to take control over a situation. My least favourite was actually Eloise’s book as I just really didn’t like Philip and their relationship. It felt too forced to me and like he only wanted to have a mother for his kids and not to work on himself.

My top 3 is 1. Anthony’s story 2. Francesca’s story 4. Hyacinth’s story But I really loved all of them and I’m just want to read them for the first time again☺️

Despite not being a fan of Regency romances I watched the first Bridgerton series and have now read Julia's entire catalogue which I've very much enjoyed. The Bridgerton prequels are also easy to read, as are the other stories. I'm hoping Netflix will continue with the genre and Julia's books.

I'm late but if you haven't already you should read the Bridgerton second epilogues. Lots of great content in them, including Penelope telling Eloise her secret. :)

Honestly this series is the best ever. I do love all of them. But Colin and Fancesca's books are my favorite. There are so beautiful. The taught us that love the true one might take some times some years to come out but one day it'll come out. Patience is the key.

“When he was wicked” reminded me of the plot of Colonel Dobbson and Amelia from “Vanity Fair”, it was a lot of the same premise.

I love that everyone has a reason for choosing their favourites Francesca story as the forgotten child who was so independent but guilt ridden about love Gregory who was ready to fight for love no matter the consequences Colin love for writing and travelling shared with a friend. Probably the most stable love Benedict a cinderella story with a reality check Anthony found his match with a lady of strong mind and firm foundation. Putting his fear of death to ease Hyacinth finding love through mystery solving Daphne make pretend dating turn real marriage. Showed the difficulty of first year marriage and knowing love and communication are needed Eloise, not my favourite. A lady whose dreams were all talk finds a home with a widower and father.

I never read historical romance until I saw Bridgerton and thought...why not, Im like half way through the Duke and I-and im in LOVE. But I know one scene will drop my rating way down ...:( But I will continue the series :) Very happy with this new genre opening for me. p.s. I like the meet cute in the book better than the tv show personally!

I have two more books left and so far Francesca's and Eloise's books are my favorites. The characters had more depth which made for a more interesting read. The women were not one dimensional but more complex.

I've only read up till book four, but my favourite ones right now are Anthony's and Colin's books just because I love Kate and Penelope sooo much and Coling is such a goofball that it's always fun to red scenes with him. I must agree with you on the first book - I love Simon but the book wasn't that interesting in comparison to the rest I've read and I just didn't like THAT SCENE (although I loved Simon's struggle with his stutter and woul've loved it explored more in the tv show but oh well). I can't wait to finish the series now that I have time to read, because based on what you've said it only gets better!

Great review! I read this series ages ago and your thoughts and ratings for each book are pretty spot on and how I felt too! Especially about Colin's book, BIGGEST letdown for me too! It's the most popular but I was left feeling very disappointed. Although I never got around to reading the last 2 books in the series cause they didn't catch my interest since they were the youngest kids but your review makes me want to go back and finish the series. And yes on Anthony! I thought it was just me. I adore the tv series version more than the book version, I think they made him more complex and dear & fleshed him out just a bit more than in the book. I think a big part of that also has to do with the actor they cast, he's amazing. Can't wait for Season 2!!!!

You mention the frequently-noted change of the Whistledown reveal from book 4 to the end of season 1 in the show, but almost no-one points out the inclusion of the foreshadowing / mini-prequel of book 5 into the show. Sir Phillip Crane marrying Marina (in the finale of season 1) is of course the precursor to the unhappy couple at the start of book 5.

I’m about to start Colins story. I’m thinking the first book is going to remain my favorite. Anthony’s and Benedict’s story are really good. But Simons story just gets me beyond emotional. His story for me was triggering. If you grew up in a Caribbean household then you might understand 😂

Still reading the series , however my favorite so far Is Anthony’s story , although it takes forever for him to realize his feelings for kate when he does its in an instant and about a page only for him to do so , while over half the book he’s still not wanting to love her .

Is it just me but I found Kate and Anthony's story the least revetting, I feel like so much could've been done with Anthony's character. The story after watching the show I was most excited for was Collin and Penelope, I can't wait to see what the series does with the story. Also, Eloise as an individual character was the most interesting. PS: I've read only upto Colin's book, can't wait to read the rest.

The Sir Phillip character was the guy who married Marina the woman who tried to trap Colin in the first season of Bridgeton…he’s the same character that Colin meets when he goes off to see how Marina is settling into her marriage… in season 2. The books are a little different from the TV show!

My mother died when she was fifty (similar to her mother). I am approaching forty and I have some infertility problem ( I have one daughter that I waited for 9 years but still wanted one more :) ) and I am about to give up because I worry what will happen if I die early like my mother ... So not exactly like Anthony as I am hoping to live more but it is affecting my decisions for sure.
