Katatonia's new album 'City Burials' is OUT NOW.
Pre-order/ pre-save now katatoniaband....
City Burials is available on CD, deluxe mediabook CD with bonus tracks, black and coloured vinyl LPs with bonus track, and digitally
Katatonia present their next single and video for “Behind The Blood”.
Video directed by Ash Pears (www.ashtv.co.uk)
This track is one of the highlights from new album 'City Burials', bursting into life with a trademark screaming guitar solo before dropping into an upbeat distinctive and hugely memorable Katatonia chorus.
Vocalist Jonas Renkse states “’Behind the Blood’ is a celebration of the heavy metal music that we all grew up with, modified to fit the Katatonia universe. Whilst lyrically it is telling the tale of dark revelry, to awaken the blood with the sound and taste of thunder.”
“Behind the Blood” has all the hallmarks of becoming a new classic.

Lyrics Behind The Blood" Rivers rush, behind the blood The cinder skies come alive with this drop of sunset How far can we go? Along the elusive flood I've been waiting all of my life to be with you Such a pale spark Such a long wait before you would let me know Before you would bless me with your thunder The ground shakes It carries the weight of the letting go I can feel you tear me asunder, whoa! My love, I can feel you push and give way to drowning I can feel you pierce my heart Hammers thrust within the cells You're a torch to the temple of depression Saturnalian curse, these are my heaving words I will do it all over again to be with you Motionless now Venin is in the blood You're a preacher Without a cross Give me some trouble Get me some trouble in I can't wait I can't wait again I can't wait again, no! Such a pale spark Such a long wait before you would let me know Before you would bless me with your thunder The ground shakes It carries the weight of the letting go I can feel you tear me asunder, whoa! My love, I can feel you push and give way to drowning I can feel you pierce my heart

I'm a big fan since 2006, "TGDC" is one of my favourite albums ever. I think the atmosphere on that album is second to none. I have to note one thing: For me, Katatonia is a like a very good friend, almost like a soulmate, someone who understands your deepest, darkest feelings, someone, you can share your hopelessness, desperation, depression with, and she/he always be there for you, no matter how tough are the times. Up until this point, they had this moody but not very depressive (like My Dying Bride) sound, it was their trademark, and i know that most of the band has left, but for me, it's.... very very different! "Lacuquer" was an all right song, we've heard something like that a few times. But this. It's a bit upbeat..?! Jonas is shining, that's clear as day, the drums sounds like something on "TGDC" (for me.) I can feel a bit of the old Katatonia buried under this proggy sound. But this riff, is a bit too upbeat. I'll wait for the full album, because it seems, that it will be very diverse.

You would've learned by now that they follow NO music genre rules. Seriously, where ya been? I wonder if there is a term to group these guys in, like the Peaceville Swedes or something? Haha But I love seeing their influences come through in their music. Åkerfeldt and Swanö are more into 70s prog while Renkse and Nystrom are more into post-punk / goth rock. But they're united by their love of classic heavy and death metal, especially Judas Priest and Morbid Angel.

I love how that first verse hits with a classic goth rock sound, but with the signature vocal style it gives a really interesting perspective to that trope. bass sounds fat af. i like the atypical song structure with the solo at the opening. overall, very impressed!

oh dear i knew this was gonna be great. someone said it in another comment but it's something worth to point out again: jonas has gotten really confident with his voice, even in lacquer one can notice he went the furthest he's ever gone with his own sound. amazing singles, amazing band, amazed fan. good shit.

for me dead end kings is the best work they have done, The complexity of the lyrics, The hard riffs really fits the calm singing, With it turning aggresive in some parts which was my favorite thing about, The whole album is written with tragedy, and instrumentally the sorrow is there which i never actually think they nailed for me personally before DEK. the riffs was too calm, old hearts, was again a more relaxed take but the lyrics was still strong, I hope this album will be as hard as dead end kings instrumentally, But i also think dance of decembre souls is some of the best within the whole melodeath genre

I am not sure what people are on about, that this is a 'new' line-up. Katatonia has always been Jonas Renkse and Anders Nyström from the beginning. This has always been their creative vision, project and design. New members have allowed them to do things they couldn't do on their own before, but the commitment to their vision and purpose has remained unwavering. People complained about Discouraged Ones, they complained about Tonight's Decision, and so forth. These albums are now classics. Unlike many bands, Katatonia have managed to remain not only relevant but also evolving and progressing.
