This is going to be an animated book review of “Peak: Secrets from the New Science of Expertise” by Anders Ericsson and Robert Pool. In this video we will discuss talent, how to perform effective practice and the 10,000 hours rule. Are great people really born with a special gift? Before we start, you should know that the author of this book, Anders Ericsson is the expert of what makes expert an expert! So he is the leading researcher of what makes people great at what they do. Everything we’ve learned or heard from deliberate practice and the 10,000 hours rule in the last 15-20 years were mostly inspired from his work.

+Practical Psychology Great video again. I just want to add that, many people think that practicing every day for 8 hours will make them really good at something. 3 hours of focused practice, in the stretch zone (not in the snap, or comfort zone) can produce bigger results than 8 hours of diffused practice. I know it from myself. When I practiced guitar I just played the songs I already knew and the results were minor. But after I've read the Talent Code I realized that Myelin is the stuff that makes our "talent" and you only produce Myelin through deep, focused, error-correcting practice. I'll be making review of the book soon for anyone that wants to learn more. Thanks for posting dude, you just helped me read a new book in 7 minutes. :)

Great video as always. 10,000 hours of practice will surely make you extremely skilled in whatever area. That's more than 1 hour every day for 27 years. EVERY DAY FOR 27 YEARS. However if you do it purposefully and deliberately, as you say, for 100 hours, which is about 3 months I reccon you can become good at something. Not GREAT but really good at least. If I were to play the guitar one hour every day for the next 3 months I would probably be really good at it. Keep it up mate.

Congrats for your vid. As you explained, is your passion, so I?m going to let me give you some tips in order to give you a point of view that could help for the nexts ones: follow the rules of "golden ratio" in order to place the elements in your canvas and also try to have full consistency among the style of the draws. Keep a unique palette of colors for you. That will give you your own style and identity. Thanks for the info. God bless you from Caracas - Venezuela. Sorry if I had any mistake with my english.

Another great video, thank you! One thing I noticed, and forgive me I may be a beer or two in here, at around 5:32 you use red font for the phrase "replicate their success" and the words "purposely", "deliberately". The association with red gave me an impression that it was somehow wrong to do these things. Suggest when using positive bullet points to use positive colour associations (green) or neutral colours. Thanks again for the awesome insights into psychology, keep up the good work!

What if you lack passion? Or you're easily demotivated? For example, one thing that I really like is ASMR, so after years of listening to it I thought to myself that I would love doing it myself, so I got myself a binaural microphone and I was pretty much set, but then somehow... I realized I wasn't exactly passionate about coming up with ideas or even doing it. Problem is, this happens often, whenever I start something, or pick up on a new habit, like exercising or running or even doing something creatively, I get easily demotivated and realize I have no passion towards that something. I do realize it might be also a combination of laziness with a few other things, but I genuinely also believe I do have no passions. So how do you build passion into something?
@commonmanv.2196
@commonmanv.2196 7 жыл бұрын
Kakashikewl That is laziness. you can't be successful unless you are getting out of your comfort zone. The same thing happened to me but I did overcome. It took time to get out my comfort zone. Finally I started creating pressure myself artificially so that I could get focused to my passion. And it did work. The thing is fill yourself with positivity. Avoid all the negative thoughts. Concentrate on what you could be in a few years and work on it.

Practical Psychology I really have a frustrating dilemma. I have so many interests that I have trouble deciding what I should practice the most and I end up doing nothing at all. I'm scared that if I give up on my other interests to focus solely on one skill I will be missing out on the things I could've enjoyed better or could've been better at. I want to work out and improve my body but I also want to learn to play the piano better and I'm so confused to what I enjoy the most/what I should focus on the most.

of course talent exist, it didn't how come some kids are better at sport or maths than other? it's because of natural or inborn predisposition. seems to me more that people are trying to deny talent so they can sell their usually stupid books or lectures to naive people who are just desperate to become successful and will believe anything to confirm their wish that talent is unnecesery. we all know people that are passionate for something but they suck and people who are great at something but they don' care about developing it... anyway without talent there can be no success, better be mature to accept that than waste time and energy, its sad but its true

This is not completely true. Have you heard of Genie Wiley? She is substantial evidence for the importance of nurture over nature. While genetics can predispose us to certain things (like shorts femurs makes for good weightlifters), they do not determine who will be great at something, only who has the potential to be the absolute best. To be great, consistent, correct practice is the only necessary determinant.

Jatok perhaps, there are always some exeptions, i don't consider what i wrote to be set in stone, just made a statement about what i've observed and learnes through expirience in life as a responce to the themes in the video. i guess in casses of the greatest geniuses and performers both are equally important..
