Hi, how did you tune your set with the 18er Floortom?
@kevmilton116 жыл бұрын
I just received mine yesterday. Toms sounded great right out of the box! Make sure people know that each of the new MMC drums are 28% lighter than the original Masters. Same strength, but lighter. Have an original Masters and was amazed by the lightness, but impressed with the power and tone. Can't wait to get them on the stage! FYI: Pearl will not be including the Optimounts moving forward. They will have to be ordered separately.

For someone wanting a fabulous kit that don't break the bank you can't go wrong with these.These are pro quality with out the staggering price tag.

I remember when I was in the market for a new kit, I had my eyes on the Pearl Masters. Ultimately went with a Mapex Saturn, but man this kit has tone. Can't go wrong with those E22S on toms too.

I own a Mapex Saturn myself and I love it! I've played all maple shells since 1984 and I'm really dig'n' these hybrids.

Your Saturn is a much better set of drums!
@pauluscarteris4 жыл бұрын
Shawn Edge Not necessarily. Mapex Saturns certainly seem to scratch the itch for some people, but there’s no evidence that they are better, or certainly “much better” than Pearl Masters kits. They certainly pioneered the ~$1500 modern pro-level market, though. But these days most companies have caught up, offering similar quality at a similar price.

I have the old MCX kit in Mocha Tamo, and do like it, however outdated. Thick shell = higher pitch. I notice a difference with the MMC's as they produce a lower note due to the thin shell. I bought my set in 2014, so no real need for a new kit. To warm up the toms I switched batter heads to coated ambassadors. To get a lower note, I would need to go to coated or clear emperors. I only posted this for anyone with an MCX who wishes they had the new MMC.

Love how nolly swears by Meinl byzance cymbals. But PLEASEEEEEEE review the new generation tama starclassic BB hyperdrive or the new generation tama starclassic full Bubinga either one with the updated hardware brought down from the star line. That hardware, quick lock brackets, quick lock and air cushioned floor tom legs, mounting system is all a game changer and I think nolly would have rave reviews about that for a gigging drummer who sets up and breaks down and needs it to be done fast and have the same exact position and angle everytime. Also the feel of the kit when you play when the toms bounce back slightly at you is just the best feeling in the world with the rubber isolation inside the brackets. Tama is killing the game and it’s all at such an affordable price.

Hi Andy, we have requested products from Headstock, who represent Tama here in the UK. Unfortunately this has not been forthcoming, despite several requests. If would like to see reviews of Tama products, please contact Headstock on 0121 508 6666 and maybe suggest that you would like to see their products. We have tried but to no avail.

Do you think a 13" Pearl Masters Complete Tom(the Green Sparkle one) would make a good recording tom, or is there quite a few better options in a similar price range? Im trying to piece together a recording kit/collect drums for recording options, and have the chance to grab one new for $70. Just looking for some opinions.

@@barrymonroy7138 Then buy used Masters - MMX (5mm, 4ply + re-rings) or MRX (7.5mm, 6ply), both sound incredible. Or you can buy late 80s/early 90s pre-Masters MLX kit, also 6ply, 7.5mm premium maple, it's even more affordable. There was also great sounding 6ply birch BRX Masters Studio, which featured mix of premium Scandinavian and Hokkaido or northern Japanese birch (same used on Recording Custom, vintage Superstar and Granstar), those sound really special. And of course, earlier BLX kits were also great. I hope that helps a bit😀 P.S. Check this out, I found it on reverb, it looks like a good deal, it's even cooler than a common MLX kit, plus it's "Made in Japan": reverb.com/item/35527716-vintage-pearl-3-piece-shell-kit

@@savagehenry5158 These days, a ton of drum companies has stepped up their game. Even in price point. So it boils to your taste. I'm firmly a Yamaha Man, but I can't say they are the best though. Got a lot of appreciation from other drum company sounds.
@markomarkovic57294 жыл бұрын
@@Hoprgras I couldn't agree more. There are so many great options at this price point today. But the most important things are the heads and tuning. Hoops and bearing edges are also important, but not as much as heads. Flashy finishes and wood type aren't that important. I don't want to sound like a fanboy, but I think the best value for the money is Mapex Saturn. Whenever I played these kits, they sounded wonderful.

How would these compare to a Gretsch Renown RN1? Any thoughts? Much appreciated!
@ofdrumsandchords5 жыл бұрын
I had two kits Gretsch, an american custom, and a vintage something, don't remember the exact name. Great sound, powerful but you can't tune precisely with 5 rods on a 12 " tom. One of my students owns a reknown maple, but I heard it in a resonant room so I can't help you. I tune my drums on notes, so I like Pearl, yamaha, sonor, tama. Gretsch ? never again.
@Monsterdrumma4 жыл бұрын
Andrew McAlister If you haven’t decided yet the renowns! Gretsch never play out of tune and sound amazing in any room unlike most all other brand kits. I own two USA customs and have played an RN1 house kit and it was awesome! Gretsch also have more character then pearl imo! These are nice though it is a win win just Gretsch for the win when comparing.

Have to give Pearl credit. They send kits for review. Where's Tama? Yamaha has Tour & recording custom kits tested. It annoys me about Tama. Now, imho nothing cooler looking than Tama. But, Pearl are willing to supply gear. I've been able to find multiple distributors with individual drums ready to ship. Bass drums, toms. This is important down the road when you need to grow. Tama? Yeah, your cool. But you won't be around much longer if you continue to neglect drummers needs.
@DrummersReview5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comments Tim. We have requested it several times from the UK distributor Headstock, but they are simply not interested in engaging with us. It's a shame, as we have had to reply several times on this front to viewers. The reviews cost them nothing, but shipping the gear. You would think they would like there products seen? In the last 28 days on DR, viewers have watched over 100,000 minutes of our video reviews. Like I have said to others, maybe some consumer pressure will work if you post something on their social media. Very best wishes, and thanks for watching subscribing. DR

It's made in China and IMH0 their workmanship will not last, like say a Greatch USA kit. YEAH because of labor cost and state subsidies China can compete in certain markets, but no thanks! I have a 1968 near mint condition (50) year old Ludwig Classic. Now that's quality!
@davidsuprenant8933 жыл бұрын
Other than your Ludwig drum shells,I'll bet the lugs,hoops,all the hardware was made in probably China or TAIWAN. As far as there craftsmanship is concerned, they will stand the test of time.Most of the MANUFACTURES hardware comes from overseas. Only a select few manufacture the hardware in the usa.There price tags reflect that price dramatically. Pearl builds great drums sir,I've owned many kits over the years.Have you ever checked out a set of pearl drums at a shop? I think you would be very surprised by there craftsmanship regardless if it's a $700 export kit,or there masterwork drums.Check them out.

@steventodd59834 ай бұрын
Made in Taiwan, as are all Pearl kits other than Masterworks. Lots of drum snob comments on here, Pearl shells are good, scarf joints in the shells, this kit is made with North American Maple, Pearl have always had great hardware too. For the price this is well worth the money. I’ve seen Ludwig and Gretsch kits come out of their respective factory’s with all sort of problems wrap peeling off , the wrong badges on the drums and the hardware isn’t as good as Pearl.
